I have confirm a gathering place at the Sports Pub on 23rd starting at 6:30pm on Friday June 1st on the 3rd floor. There is another group - but the space is big with 1/2 wall dividers. Since it is difficult to assess the number - we will be located at the High Tables near the bar on the 3rd floor under the name of Milepoint.

Date: Friday, June 1st starting at 6:30pm

Location: Crystal City Sports Pub - 3rd floor - high table are near bar
    529 23rd St South
    Arlington VA 22202

Will make dinner decision then - either at the Sports Pub or other restaurant in the block with varying arrivals - I recommend staying the the Sports Pub for dinner.

Good choice on the Sports Bar - Game day venue for Iowa Hawkeyes in the Capital Area :)

Does this mean that there will be sports on TV and not muted in our area?

There will be sports on multiple TV's, I imagine the bar wouldn't force the group to listen to the extent that can be managed with the other group sharing the 3rd floor, but there might be cheers and jeers around the bar depending on what games are going on that night.

...As a long as you are accepting "didn't clear the wait-list, but happen to be in the area folks" i'll try and come by.

Go back behind the curtain, no unwashed masses allowed :p

But seriously, we love seeing locals who couldn't get into the main party. The more travelers that we meet, the merrier.

I'm impressed that locals not attending the launch party are willing to do this, and even organize stuff for the lucky 100.

well, maybe some figure that with enough alcohol poisoning, then they might be able to steal some of the slots ;)

From what I observed a few weeks ago - the volume is low. There will however be another group in the large room (separated by half wall). So likely noise from another group. But I don't expect very loud TV sound.

Alsofor anyone arriving in town early on friday into . you may be interested in heading out towards Dulles(IAD) Where the inaugural LH 747-800 flight will be landing at around 12:45 just thought I would provide heads up on that since I was reading about it. Also if anyone needs suggestions for activities or things to do in DC over weekend when not at the official party feel free to send me a PM happy to help with ideas. :) Hope everyone has a fun time at the launch party

Some...stays (plural) booked on Friday? How can you get credit for multiple stays on the same night in the same chain?

Thanks for setting this up Crystal City Sports Pub is a good choice, the discounted drinks and appetizer happy hour is 4-7, so get your order in right when you arrive. If you are around on Monday they have half price burgers, also most nights they have decent all night dinner specials.

I’ll try to talk my wife into coming – if she attends I will also… We will attend, knowing us we will get there early to get our happy hour priced snacks and an extra drink.

(cross post to main thread) I’m a lover of the Kabob Palace nearby – http://www.yelp.com/biz/kabob-palace-arlington-2 – it’s a not a group dinning destination – but is a small hole in the wall Kabob shop that has been in business for many years. It is small and sort of shady, full of locals, foreigners and taxi drivers – and is open 24 hours. Looking in you might think it’s a tad doggy. Although I’m a meat eater I no longer eat Kabobs because I don’t like the wait, so I get some sort of daily curry or stew from the hot trays along with bread and am always satisfied – my wife and I usually split one dish with an extra bread (for me).

I plan to try to drop by at least for a drink if not dinner, but I'm expecting my flight tomorrow afternoon to be messed up, although it's scheduled to serve a late, presumably cold, lunch, so I probably won't be very hungry.

Good News! AA opened up 7 T bucket seats on the earlier flight, so I will be in earlier than originally planned. I will however miss the festivities, so i'm sure i'll see people for lunch tomorrow (or anyone loitering at the bar at the hotel).

SDC's to an earlier flight today. Hope to join y'all at the Crystal City Sports bar if thunderstorms don't mess with the flight.

Eye on the thunderstorms for sure! We had some window rattling, bed shaking thunder boomers here last night? Rained almost two inches!

7-Eleven a block away from the Crystal City Sports Pub . Plenty of Red Bull but watch which door you go in. One establishment to the left is quite different. And on that note, if you taxi to the bar make sure you ask for the Crystal City Sports Pub NOT the Crystal City Restaurant [unless you really want to go in the door to the left]

I was thinking about a SDC, but my guess is that our airspace will be closed for Obama around the time of the earlier flight I was considering so it doesn't seem worth the hassle.

I just had to look at their website, and was glad I did:

"He founded the establishment with the intention of providing quality hot meals to the Arlington area" ... "a very talent filled staff has been successfully creating memories for men nationwide."

Must be some incredible appetizers and desserts.
