SPG Getaway Free

My apologies for all the rumors and speculation over the past few weeks. But, I can officially announce that the next SPG promotion will be SPG Getaway Free. Between May 1 and July 31, 2011, registered members will earn 1 Free Resort Night Award for every 3 stays at any of the more than 1000 Starwood hotels and resorts that participate in the SPG program. Free Night Awards can be redeemed at over 200 resorts worldwide any day of the week through December 21, 2011. There are no limits to the number of awards you can earn, plus awards are combinable for a long stay, and there are no blackout dates.

The registration site will open later today at spg.com/getawayfree and a full list of resorts available for redemption can be found at spg.com/getawayfree/resorts later today as well. All category 1-6 resorts with standard rooms are included, plus the category 7 St Regis Punta Mita, Mexico.

Registration will run from today through June 30.

Thanks William for those details. By the looks I will be spending my weekend strategizing how I can make this promo work for us. Nice to see that we have until Dec 21 to use the free nights.

Off to spg.com to do some plotting. Love the free nights being valid any night through 12/21. Is there a limit on the # nights one can earn?

While its not as good as previous Stay X, get 1 night free due to the restriction to resorts, its still a good promotion and the Dec 21st deadline to use them helps me decide where I would apply my free resort nights!

Last sentence of the first paragraph reads, "There are no limits to the number of awards you can earn, plus awards are combinable for a long stay, and there are no blackout dates."

So, really the only limitation is the earning period.

It's a good promotion, would like to see extra spg points as well for stays.....

Incredible opportunity to get discounted stay at St. Regis Punta Mita while it is a 30,000 points per night property. That is equivalent to a 10,000 Starpoints per stay bonus. WOW!

I'm excited about the promo! I need to rethink a lot of my vacation plans for this year, though. This will definitely have me switch some of my plans back over to SPG properties!

I'm curious... 24 hours ago, was there an expectation among SPG staff that this announcement would be made today?

William the Champion said that the link would not be live until later today. Give it time, just be sure to register before your first stay after May 1.

If it's the same as most similar promos from the past, it's not necessary to register prior to your stay. You just have to register by the June 30 midnight (ET) registration deadline. There's no reason to wait, but you won't be penalized for failure to register early. And awards can't post to your account if you haven't registered.

You're right, but I like to see stuff post so that I know how I'm doing, especially if there are thresholds. Also, I don't want to risk forgetting to register, so I like to make the habit of doing it before my first stay that counts.

No 1,000, 2000 and 3,000 point bonuses then?

I don't even know what that is. A rumor someone dropped, perhaps?

It's a good promo, esp if you can head to Tahiti or Hawaii..etc. For me, I won't have another vacation till XMas, so too bad I can't use the free nights.
