I've never stayed in a Cat. 7 hotel, sounds still somewhat un-economical to me, but having said this, I would love to stay in one.
I agree; doing C&P on this (using $600 as a base point) the per point is $0.02. I usually i get 3 to 5 per point using C&P.
+1 The option is nice but really.... $275 + 15k pts? This award must be for those people who don't know how to use their points more wisely. If any of you are out there, I'd be happy to sell you a brand new iPad 3 for 100k Starpoints.
I'm glad the option is there. Some of these properties can be a lot more than 600 a night, so even if redemption rates are a little out of whack, I could see myself redeem if I wanted to try a particular property and it was 1000 USD a night. (aka 2 ipads )
good point. I find myself from time to time in a starwood high end property. C&P invariably has been good value at the higher end, at least for people who want those properties. Some I am looking for next month at $700-$1100 will be very nice with points &$
We'll have to wait and see what the Cat 7 C&P availability looks like. It's a potentially interesting option.
Just an FYI that these appear to now be bookable online as well as calling the Customer Contact Center. Best regards, William R. Sanders Social Media Specialist Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide spgchampion@starwoodhotels.com
One other update: The St. Regis Bali is being removed because they have no standard room types for award availability. All of the awards for this property are upgrade awards, requiring an additional Starpoint cost. Best regards, William R. Tonight's price for a specialty select room suite large cubic area there is US$468 + 11% tax + 10% service charge = $566. If C&P were to be offered, it would be... $566 = $275 + tax + service charge + 15K points $566 - $275 - tax - service charge = $332 = 15K points 2.21 cpp Instead, the lowest level award option there is 31,500 points. $566 = 31,500 1.8 cpp Stay 5 nights, and that could yield at least 2.2 cpp, but you'd need 126K points in your account for that award. IIUC, a hotel could assign any room type to the C&P rate. If they wanted to assign a specialty select room type to that rate type, SPG ought to let them, IMO.
That's what had been done here, FWIW, but it became an insurmountable technical issue, so they're no longer participating. Best regards, William R. Sanders Social Media Specialist Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide spgchampion@starwoodhotels.com
Too bad, but thanks for the update. It would be nice if there was somewhere on spg.com to see the number of points required for Limited Participation properties like this. It's inconsistent among some of these "all suites" properties. At the very least, it would make sense to say that awards at this property start at 31,500 (36,750 peak). Otherwise, we're left to suspect that awards here start at 60K.
Or have to call just to find out the amount when all we might be looking for is information. More Self-Service!
+1 These rates seem high but they are the only way I can afford (or will decide to pay) to stay in an awesome property like the Gritti Palace in Venice. I am sure some people think that $150 + 8k points per night is also a poor value for Cat 6 like Princeville but this type of award is exactly why my SPG account is frequently zeroed out while I have 300k in my HHonors account. (The other reason is that you can actually find SPG award inventory)
