SQ Set on final 744 flight.. Or will 388 checking delay the final phase-out?

So, on TOBB they discussed the last flight of the 744 which will be SIN-MEL-SIN on March 24th.

Will be sad to see the final days of 744 in SQ fleet.. And will be sadder still since I won't be able to fly in them before their phase-out.

However, the latest news (in my home country's language) states that one QF's 388 is grounded due to further cracks on its wings.. Perhaps the end of the era is not quite an end?

Perhaps partly responsible for the soon to be saver awards for 380, 345, 77W J and 77W F.

Very sad indeed. The Megatop will always have a special place in my heart.

Come to think of it, my last flight on the Megatop was almost 4 years ago

My first and my last was 3 years ago..

My only flight on a 747 so far was IAD-LHR on BA in 2009. I've always thought it was the most beautiful passenger plane I've ever seen. It looked even better from the J seat I was upgraded to (I think they must've oversold Y, & I was the first one in line at IAD when check-in opened).

I've flown a number of times on a 744, 744 Combi, 742, and 743.. But my first and last one on SQ is one of the more memorable ones.. Especially with one of the most comfortable beds in the skies.. I missed it dearly..

My last one was Aug 2, 2008 on SQ866. Gonna miss this jumbo dearly.

They are indeed great aircrafts.. The only way I'd experience the comfort again is to fly with CX on their 744..

Sad to see that the day is getting closer... Makes me all the more thankful for being able to hop on SQ12 when they still had it on the route!

Then, you're much too young, my friend! I remembered in the mid-90s SQ only had the 744s and the A310s in their fleet, so we would get to fly on the 744s even on short regional hops like CGK, BKK, and HKG. In fact, I remembered that at one time all the HKG flights were operated by 744s. How I long for those times again. There's always something special about flying on the Queen of the Skies, even in Y.

If only they'd keep the last 744 as part of an aviation museum.. Would've been awesome!

We will have four sectors on their 744s next month and April.

Lucky! I'm off to 2 388s on LH and SQ in June, then another 2 388s in December and January, and another one in June 2013..

2013? Wow you certainly plan your flights much further out that I do. At the moment, the furthest confirmed bookings I have is only in May.

This may shock some.. But I have planned out all my long ranged travels until December of 2013..

But only the ones till June 2013 are booked and in the process of being confirmed and paid for..

But at this time, schedules are only available 365 days in advance. So I don't think any sectors in June 2013 are bookable yet.

Actually, 330 days.. So the June 2013 part is bookable only on August 2012..

But they manage to hold my itinerary until September 18th..

I agree. It's sad that the last flight will take place soon, but keeping one as a sort of memorial and museum at SIN would be so nice.

They should keep 9V-SMU, the 1000th 747...or has she gone away already?

I think of the 747 as such an important part of the history of SQ and by extension the country.

Perhaps monetary values are more important than sentimental values..

Boeing should've been more persuasive to SQ.. Or at least they should've just bought back 9V-SMU..
