Because it's the closest place to the US that'll let me live and work there easily. Even the Mexicans don't want me. Actually I lie - New Zealand is the only country in the world that Mexico provides a working holiday scheme for Maximum of three months per cartel employer though
\ lol....... your quite a ways aways from the UA and Canda then, mileage ways though plane travel shortens that drastically
doh lol whoops my bad ...... i think their should have been an S in there ...... your a ways away from the USA.... god help us if United or American manage to take over the world ....... it would be a very sad day for travel, and it would not be fun
Wow, three great options. I know it's super early but is there anyway we can get ballpark costs for each (say +/- $500)? As a hypothetical, If the Europe trips are $2000-$3000 (in Y including roundtrip positioning flights from US) and Asia is $3000-$4000 that might swing some votes one way or the other...
Yes, Asia is fantastic for all the aforementioned reasons by other posters. But one could make similar arguments for Europe. Unless one plans to arrive before the DO or stay after the DO, it's not like we'll have a whole lot of time to see the cities. That's not to say that there's no time for sightseeing, but it's not a main focus. Rather, it's all about the carriers being flown and the behind-the-scenes access. We move fast on DOs, and most of the time is spent at airports or on board. So for those who have flown Asian and non-Asian carriers, it is easy to discern the higher quality of the service, specifically from the *A Asian carriers listed vs. the *A European carriers listed.
And Europe isn't a project from the west coast? I understand and respect your position, but remember that there are folks from other parts of the US and the world who fly great distances to participate on the Mega DOs. And again, while Asia is my preference, I'd be happy with any of the three options.
lol i love it TWA and PAN AM did a pretty good job of it until deregulation randy, lol. I was looking at a TWA timetable from 1984 and a PAN AM one from 1990. response to TWA...= ooops Response to PAN AM = no wonder they went out of business lol
Patience, youngling. And stay tuned to this thread and to the MegaDo area for announcements. Sign up is, I’m sure, still some time away. But once announced, be ready to pounce!
Hmmm, the Canadians will let you in but the Mexicans won't. <where is that Security I called for, tic toc, tic toc > Do you know which city you will live in if you move to Canada? Also, I wonder if you will be able to get a Nexus pass. Its the only way for transborder travel!
Figured as much, unless the organizers put themselves through the pain of chartering a separate plane or carrier for each leg. Wouldn’t envy them working that out, though! If the Med trip should win out the, I’d opt for start/finish in IST to allow folks time in advance for touristics. Not sure what city in the Asian section would be best to start/finish with, except that I’ve never been to BKK, so....
I just hope the timing of this event does not coincide with or be close to the Labor Day Weekend in the USA. I host the traditional Cow Do in EZE and lose many participants to this event as we of course cannot compete with a Mega Do of this caliber....
Well, that may be the case.... but, still... lets remember we are talking about FFlyer boards here so no matter what the booze is.... miles and points are the top trump suit, no matter what....
I understand the concerns about positioning flights. The cost of these has been why I haven't made any of the MegaDos based around the US. I love all of these options, but my favourite is the one furthest away: not for its distance, for the destination itself. Asian dawn. (About the time lin821 goes to bed )
Well I have to vote Asia here, since that is completely unexplored territory when it comes to MegaDOs! Of course that also means it's also most-likely the hardest to pull off, so I'd put Mediterranean as a second choice.
While I was one of those slightly annoyed with the conflict, I simply shifted EZE a day and did both... Yes, that turned into: AUS-IAD-EZE-MIA-LGA/JFK-FRA-MUC-FRA-ORD-YUL-DEN/DEN-MCI-IAH-AUS (CowDo/SMD3/return home).
