I am sad if this MegaDo is in asia I think it will send it out of my pricepoint and I won't be able to go
I think I recently tossed my pile into the recycling bin. Probably should have kept a few and put them on eBay in 10 years. I just noticed that multiple votes are allowed in this poll, so I will sell my votes to the highest bidders for each of the three choices.
I think this is why wijomas is trying to forego being a kiwi in order to become a canuck - not sure how many more TPAC's he can afford in order to make the SMD (and OWMD) TATLs
I am not rich, and have never done this before. But I'm really thinking that I need to do this next year because this group seems like it shares my bizarre interest in aviation. So in the past, how much has this cost? And how does it work for reserving seats?
We vote for the Med -- Asian Dawn is simply too much travel in too short a time for oldsters like us!
Economy for SMD2 and SMD3 was (and OWMD is) around $800. This price does not include positioning flights and optional pre-DO events (like the SMD2, SMD3, OWMD TATLs). Follow this thread and this forum. When the charter destination is finalized, and the booking engine is open, there will be an announcement. First come, first served.
If you're even thinking of doing it... you have to do it. Many cool experiences and acquaintances It will almost certainly be more in Europe or Asia, but the last two years the required charter component was under $1000 plus you had some hotel costs. The optional international components were around $1000 all-in in coach and around $2000 in discounted biz, plus hotel costs. Booking will be announced in a thread on here as well as in various of the Boarding area blogs. Follow this thread and you'll probably find everything you need to know
I vote for Nordic Affair and Asian Dawn. The airline list on Asian Dawn looks quite enticing. Could we please have some approximate dates for September( Labor Day wekend, 3rd week, etc), as I plan travel in advance and missed last year's SMD3 due to booked travel. Thanks in advance.
and that was the first they shut down too..... TWA and PAN AM fought the battle to the bitter end on TATL and only two carriers with focus city iops in euroep and seacarl don't let the handle fool you I am a TWAer for life
NO ASIA DO..... JUST SAY NO ......also in case all you mega do fanatics are unaware that 4 of the 5 founding star alliance members are from Europe and North America......... if you all embrace the Star Alliance as you say you all do, then you would know that the founders were United, Air Canada, Lufthansa , SAS and Thai. would it not be a good nod to Founding Members such as Lufthansa or SAS to host the program....... In Asia the only founding carrier is Thai....... anyone one thinks lufthansa would not go all out needs to do some homework on the DLH groupe. I have said my piece think about it and make a rational and logica decision
LH was awesome on SMD2 (the optional TATL pre-DO). They held a nice reception in their JFK lounge, gave us a private tour of one of their A380s, hosted dinner at their beautiful FRA headquarters, and then allowed us to have a private reception at their FRA First Class Terminal. And some of us also met with with Star Alliance folks and participated in focus groups. IMHO, LH was not quite as stellar on SMD3 (again, optional pre-DO TATL). Don't get me wrong, we flew the A380 in J at a great price, and they helped pull together a great program at MUC with the airport officials. But, perhaps because it was MUC and not FRA HQ, it felt more "subdued." But from the perspective of wanting to do something new, Asia would be breaking new ground for SMD. And while tipping my cap to the wonderful hospitality and service received from LH on SMD2 and 3, the on-board service on the Asian carriers wins hands-down, every time. And if the Asian carriers' behind-the-scenes hospitality matches their on-board soft product (an assumption, I know), then Asian Dawn would be amazing.
