If you have previously held this card be aware that American Express may see this and not honor another sign up bonus. If this happens they will generally credit you the difference if the new sign up bonus is higher than your previous one. However, there have been reports of people receiving multiple bonuses as well. At this point I'm unsure how far they look back.
I don't have any experience with 'churning' cards, or applying for a previously-held card -- so can't weigh-in on how AmEx handles these things. However, it's hard for me to believe that the 'referral' issue would necessarily impact the referrer, unless the referree is not approved!
Nope. Gotcha entered. Still at approximately zero requests for referrals, so at this rate, you should get yours by infinity.
unrelated to the conga going on - does AMEX have any retention bonus like Citi? I have the personal and the business card and will likely cancel one - but curious if calling for one or the other would yield me any bonuses
I have heard of attempts for annual fee waivers and for a bucket of points (up to x,000 a year) that SPG gives out when you have concerns about their program. It is always worth a call to discuss with them, report back here!
Doubtful...but you can try to combine credit limits into a new card...thus not losing any credit history obtained from the "canceled" card....and you would then get the new card's bonus points (as currently promoted etc).
SPG Amex sometimes offers a couple of thousand (once I got 5000) starpoints to maintain the card. However this is not something that is standard.....ymmv
well, i called... all they offered was a reduction in the interest rate, so i cancelled that card since its due in a few months and i never keep a balance i have the personal card which i'll keep; i justed didn't need to pay 2 annual fees for basically the same card. oh well. given that a lot of ppl got the 30K card which they'll soon cancel, they probably are being stingy
aitchly - I'd be appreciative if you'd add to me to your referral list above. I'm just breaking into the mileage/points game and can use all the help I can get. Thanks!
I received this postcard targeted at business owners. If you already own the Starwood Amex card, you'll receive 10,000 bonus *points for every new card approval you make until March 11, 2011. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - You'll get 25,000 bonus Starpoints and pay no fee the first year. I get 10,000 points for the referral. Contact me and I'll add your name to my referral list. I need your name and e mail.
I also recieved the post card for 10,000 bonus points for SPG Business Amex referrals. Its a good deal. It says the new applicant recieves up to 25,000 points plus no fee for the first year. If anybody has been considering applying for the SPG Business card, please message me. You can easily open the buisiness account as a sole proprietorship with your Name as the business name. You can use your social security number as the tax ID - no need for EID number. Also, please add my name to the referral conga list on post #1
I need to get the SPG Amex. If someone can tell me where to apply for the 25,000 bonus point offer, I'll gladly enter referral information.
Feel free to start a conversation with any of the people listed in post 1 of this thread...including myself.....I am sure of any us would be happy to help
I just visited the Westin Key West for my honeymoon and spent $370 in room service, but forgot to take my SPG AMEX with me! Drat! I only got 2 points per dollar, but I'm SPG Gold... guess a note to customer service is in order...
I canceled my personal card, re-applied for another bonus, and was approved. I'd spoken to a CSR and asked if I could make the spend requirement on my old card to get the bonus. That was a no go.
Did you get the referral from someone yet? If not, start a conversation and you can get a link (from me or from anyone else on the first post list)
My confusion was over how the spend req on the 'old' card even mattered -- since you cancelled it! Cool that you were able to get the bonus!
