Proximity to family and other higher-use sites. And it's a nice transportation artery in a city which is EXTREMELY NOTORIOUS for traffic. Seriously, be prepared for it to take over an hour to get across town - minimum. Take the BTS (light rail) whenever you can. The JW is a very nice hotel and, like the Sheraton/Westin Grande Sukhumvit, more in the "downtown"/business district as opposed to some of the older/more tourist/historic parts of town. I don't know anything about the Renaissance, but I would definitely say that in this city, location is key - figure out where you're going to be going/spending time and if you can pick a place that is more convenient rather than less, it'll make a difference.
