Head on over to the Tabacon resort near Arenal. It's even worse.

Many of the larger and/or chain resorts can potentially get you big. But there are always local options more in line with regular US or less prices. We went to one after tabacon wanted to charge us $35 each for breakfast.

I have made only one trip on miles this year. That was an emergency run to LGA to see my mother, and UA wanted $1200 for the ticket. I bought the trip for 20K miles instead. Most of my other trips are on someone elses dime (or tens of dimes), given that they are 1 day trips and plus cher.

Does not sound much more than what Israeli four and five star hotels charge for their breakfast.
