In the meantime, you could ask a MilePoint Guide for assistance. Gargoyle and SC Flier are two that pop in the lounge from time to time.

PLEASE join the MilePoint Kiva team.

Kiva is a non-profit organization with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty. Join Kiva at http://kiva.org/invitedby/michael8602 and help save the world one $25 loan at a time.

With Kiva, doing good has virtually no cost beyond the lost opportunity cost of the dollars invested. $1,000 invested through Kiva that otherwise would be in a bank account or money fund has an after tax to you of around $3. For $3 you can make 40 new money $25 loans and, if you stick to short term loans, likely get enough in repayments to make another 20 or more loans.

Though Kiva you select a deserving borrower and commit as little as $25 in the form of a loan. Other Kiva members do likewise and in a short time a loan of hundreds or even thousands of dollars is made to a deserving individual or group. Over time (sometimes in as few as five months) your loan is repaid and you can take back your money or re-lend it. The overall Kiva default rate is about 1.2%. I have yet to have had a loan default.

Teams add to the excitement. As of mid-February, the team has made over $1.68 million in loans all over the world. Each loan not only benefits the borrower and his or her family, by everyone that the borrower spends money with whether for business or personal needs. Since much is spend locally, each loan has substantial impact on the local economy.

We hope to reach the $2 million in loans by March 10. To do this we need your help. Every loan helps the team, the borrower and more. Please join and make at least one (more if you can) loan.

So how do you join our team. Join Kiva first at http://kiva.org/invitedby/michael8602 . Then go to http://www.kiva.org/team/milepoint and join our team. http://kiva.org/invitedby/michael8602 is my referral link, but be assured that beyond bragging rights I get no miles, points or other benefits if you use it.

MilePoint is one of Kiva’s newer groups, yet with just over 600 members we have loaned over $1.68 million dollars. To get a feel for MilePoint's active Kiva team, stop by and visit us at http://milepoint.com/forums/threads/new-milepoint-lending-team-general-info.2185/ .

Now back to our regularly scheduled program. :D
Good m/a/e all! Off to Costco now to get gasoline and see what wonderful new and exciting items they have in store for me that I will find indispensible. :)

Don't forget some Ahi Poke :D

How are gas prices in your area?

Of course not! Or the garlic shrimp!
The gas prices make me want to trade my car in for a Nissan Leaf. I rented one recently and had a lot of fun driving it. It would only work for me in Hawaii since it only gets 70 miles to a full charge. On Oahu that's a great distance, but in California it would be impractical.

What kind of garlic shrimp do you find at Costco? Are they in the frozen section?

I hope the pear juice will at least help you with the side effects of the chemotherapy.. Best wishes to you.. :)

Guilinggao is another type of food, a chinese jelly made from turtle shell, that is supposedly good since it has a 'cooling' effect on the body.

Chemotherapy is hot, so asian pear juices are cooling.. But interestingly enough, european pears and pears that shaped like bells are often 'hot' instead of 'cold'..

Maybe Laoshi Lin, can explain it better than I can.. :)

No, these are fresh and sold by weight. They are in the fresh fish case next to FS favorite ahi poke. They only sell it at the Oahu Costco--not on Maui.

You know...funny you should mention the heat. I definitely feel this strange internal heat. I have been reading about Asian pears, so I have high hopes :)

My mom said the very same thing when she had her chemo.. And she drank lots of those pear juices.. She managed to feel rather cooler at the end of the day. I certainly hope it'll help you too! :)

You should consider pursuing it. I'm having a lot of fun learning more about planes and I'm excited about the challenge of flying one.

My one concern for you would be getting the third-class medical needed for a private pilot certificate. Having cancer isn't an automatic disqualifier, but it depends on the type. In most cases, undergoing chemotherapy means you'll probably have to wait a few months after the therapy is finished before getting the medical. I'd recommend talking with an aviation medical examiner (AME- a medical doctor who is certified by the FAA to give medicals) before starting flight training. Your local flight school can recommend one or you can check the list here (http://www.faa.gov/pilots/amelocator/).

The good news is if an AME doesn't think you could pass a medical check, there's still the light sport pilot certificate. That certificate would still allow you to fly a plane if you have a driver's license. It has a lot more restrictions on what you can do, but cost half as much and takes less time to get.

I hope you do go for a pilot's license. I'd love to see you up in the sky. :)

Morning, All. Once again awakened to the sound of the jackhammer digging out the foundation of the construction site across the street from me. Today, the started pretty much right at 7AM; most days it’s a varying amount of minutes after 7, including last Saturday.

However, waiting morning emails included one from CO noting that I’ve been upgraded on 1 of my 4 MR flights on the 28th, the red-eye portion (PDX-IAH) of my LGA-DEN-PDX-IAH-LGA run.:)
