Not sure if this is the place for this post, but here we ago anyway. I'd had some leftover time on the old CLEAR service and had thought it was dead and gone. About a month ago, I received an email stating that a new company had bought it up and was restarting it. I could reactivate my membership, with the clock on my membership starting to run when it came to my city, if I resubmitted my info. The site looked similar to the old one, but I haven't yet reactivated because of the personal info I'd need to submit to a company I'm not sure is really legit. Can anyone confirm that this new CLEAR is legit and up and working at the few cities they claim to be operating now?
I joined CLEAR for the first time a few weeks ago because they now have a CLEAR lane in Orlando. It's $189 a year but I get through the line in 2 minutes versus 15-30 depending on the weekend visitors to the mouse.
Yes, it's back up. Some folks purchased what was left of the original Clear in bankruptcy court awhile back. As far as I know, it is only up in Denver and Orlando for right now.
I was amazed I hadn't thrown out my old Clear card. For me, it's worth it for MCO; I was able to take advantage of the reactivation.
From what I noticed at MCO on Monday the clear line forces you to use the NOS's or was that some other special line next to teh Clear line?
Thanks. Yes, the email did note that they were only up in those 2 places for the moment. What's unclear to me, given that I'm in an area of 3 airports and that I've tended to use EWR mostly, is whether my clock will start running if they set up at LGA even though I may not be using it because of my EWR departures. Guess that's a question for them.
I signed up for CLEAR in 2010. I've used it multiple times in DEN, and once in MCO. I find the ladies who run the line in DEN to be wonderful people (they greet me by last when I walk up). MCO leads right to the Nude-O-Scope, which is a problem, but there are ways to get around it.. I've been told that SFO should be the next airport to get CLEAR.
As others have mentioned above, the new CLEAR is legitimate, but only in DEN and MCO for right now. If you had a CLEAR card from the old company that has your picture on it, you can walk up and use it. If not, you'll need to request a new card. The new company is honoring any old membership term you purchased with the old company.
I haven't noticed the NOS at the CLEAR lane at MCO, but I've only been through 3 times. Are the NOS's at the A or B terminal or at the lower or higher gate numbers?
30-59. UA/CO/US/EI Last time I used CLEAR at MCO, they directed me to the closest line with the NoS. While there were only three people ahead of me, I was worried that I would have to opt-out, until the clerks closed the NoS I'm flying out of MCO in the morning, and will report back on the setup. Hoping that the backscatter will be turned off!!
I had quite a bit of time left on my old clear membership. Used it in MCO recently and saved myself a ton of time. Glad to see it's back! If only they brought it back to ALB! The clear lane dumped right into the NOS, but they weren't using it and sent me through the regular lane right next to it.
So, I haven't been able to find my old card, but have 4 years left on my membership. It says somewhere that if you can't find the card you can get a new one, but I got the impression that there's a charge for it. Does anyone have experience with getting a new card?
There's a $155 new member special offer through Feb 14, 2011 on the enrollment page: It appears that Refer-A-Friend and other promo/discount codes are also available. If Refer-A-Friend is the same as it used to be, the new member and the referring friend both get a free month. Membership covers travel with family members under 18 years old. Additional adult family members can be added for $50. They also offer a 15% military discount.
I had to get a new card myself. While I can't remember the exact fee (and can't quickly locate it on their website), it was only $5 or something similar. The card arrived in about a week. Very quick turnaround. I had given up on CLEAR and I destroyed the old card.
For those with cards that are not near a CLEAR enabled airport (everyone in the US other than DEN and MCO) there is an option to have a portion of your original fee refunded. Per the T&Cs: Once renewed, your CLEARmembership fee is refundable. Refunds will be pro-rated based on the time remaining on your membership, subject to a cancellation fee. The cancelation fee is $30 so its best to call to determine your balance.
Got the same email... Haven't replied/signed up as SA gold usually gets you to the premium security line. Also, if you fly internationally much, its totally worth it to get the Global Entry thing from the CBP. The last two returns to IAD it was worth its weight in gold... (actually more, since the sticker in your passport doesn't weigh much...)
I also had Clear originally (a perk for Hyatt Diamonds - and IIRC Starwood Platinums also). Sometime after they shut down, I destroyed my card. Once the restart was announced, I signed up and paid the $5 for the new card (pretty reasonable IMO). I received my new card shortly after with my picture on it (original card didn't have it) so they definitely have your information whether or not you reactivate your membership. I'm not sure how much "unused" time I have left but should be quite a bit since I renewed Clear (before they closed down) with my continued Hyatt Diamond.
You should be able to view your unused time on your CLEAR homepage. When I reactivated my account, the days remaining was a line item on my profile page.
I'm an old Clear member and liked it a lot. I reactivated and had to get a new card with picture. TPA is my home airport but do look at LH flights direct to FRA from MCO from time to time so figured I'd fire it back up. Question. Clear gets me to the head of the line. Great. But now you have the premier line for first class/status flyers which give you a short(er) line now in many airports. Is Clear really worth it? Am I missing any other value?
I was very sad to see CLEAR go under. They had finally gotten their act together in ATL and I was flying in and out of either LGA or HPN every other week. It was amazing at LGA - at most one person ahead of you and you were escorted right to the conveyor belt for the baggage scanners, AND they got you bins to use too. I haven't reactivated and won't until they gain more acceptance.
