Due to popular demand, I thought I would start this thread to capture all the great conversations re: SMD III and leave the official SMD III site to deal with official announcements by the organizers.

Just playing around with some tips from the ExpertFlyer rep that shared how to paste their seat maps. Havent seen it this way before.

Who here has been on a SMD before?

I was on SMD2 in seat 31F.

First time for me. It sounds like a great time. Hope thats the case with III

Have they said that directly? Last I heard it was still up in the air if US flyers would get miles/EQM's for the charter.

Correct. However, being said that US has no other part of SMD III, I do not believe they will be providing any miles. Unfortunately, I do not see any marketing reason for them to do it, even though would love to credit to US

Hmmmm...wonde if it would be worth our while for all of us that want US EQM's to contact US customer service or DM customer service.

You would think that as a STAR ALLIANCE event that star alliance members would be very willing to reward its members. No different than going to a convention, and getting all the freebies from all the sponsors and vendors. Why not reward their most loyal and most "interested" flyers. Doesnt make much sense to me. I feel the same way with BMI's lack of participation as of this point.

Last year US had an event at PHX during SMD and did credit miles as far as I remember (credited to CO last year). It does not hurt to ask US for a credit. I would check with Pizzaman to see if anything is in the works and what we can do to assist in getting US miles for the charter.

from what I've been told about last year, there were a few ff plans that were last minute additions. Like Tahkuct said, call the airline. I plan on buggin' BMI once the final details are in place. I assume there would be a flight number for the charter no? Maybe that could be enough. Fortunately its not a long as a trip like to GRU which would really suck with no miles to our respective programs.

I'm pretty sure it was a select group of hardcore US FFs that went after Doug but he seems to roll with the punches very well. I actually had a good impression of US after SMD2. Of course, then I tried flying them...

Actually, the hard core US FF'ers were very polite and respectful to Doug, and all of the US employees who were in attendance. One even presented Doug with an A&B cert. A few lapsed US CP's who had moved on to other carriers asked the tough questions. While most of the other participants found the Boeing tour to be the best part of SMD2, I personally considered the photo op with Doug Parker to be the best part.

I, for one, would be thrilled if US sent representatives to fly with us on the charter flight, and join in some of the activities. I have previously lobbied Tommy for this, but I don't know what - if any - will be US's level of involvement in SMD3.

For those of you who plan to contact US about miles for the charter flight, I would not do anything at this time to go around the organizers. Just try to view it from their perspective. We don't know what their conversations have been, and what impact side conversations from "unauthorized" participants may have on their negotiations. If you have a real concern which would possibly prohibit you from attending, I would recommend starting a conversation with Pizzaman. If US ultimately decides not to award miles, why don't you just credit your earnings to UA? Fly in Y, and direct the difference between the Y ticket and Tommy Class and/or BF toward your buy-up to the next Dividend Miles Preferred level. Plus, given Doug Parker's urge to merge, it would not surprise me if some day the miles in your MP account get combined with the miles in your DM account.

This will be my 3rd, but my first time not doing the European leg, due to scheduling reasons. I was in F on the charter last year.
