Posted this on the official thread, but just in case: I've started very BASIC Wiki page so far for SMD3 Attendee positioning flights. You can find it here: WIKI LINK If you would like to share your positioning flights so that others can extend the great experience with you, please PM me your position flight info and I'll add to the WIKI. Thanks!
Ok, don't know how popular this is going to be but, Firefly and my positioning flights are: AA392 Sep. 5th ORD-LGA @ 755AM Return from Denver AA1616 Sept. 11th DEN-DFW, connecting to AA2372
Are you going directly to JFK from LGA? I'm getting to LGA at the same time (11:05am, though on UA) and would be happy to share a cab.
Thanks, I'll have to think about it. Apparently, JFK-FRA is being booked into L, which is SWU upgreadable...debating whether there is any realistic chance of it clearing for that flight and if so, whether I should try to get to JFK ASAP.
Oh, darn, you're right, they have recently changed it to non-upgradeable. Silly me, completely forgot about the change. Regardless, with SMD taking up half the C cabin, the chance of it clearing is close zero.
tommy777, post: 598167"] AA392 Sep. 5th ORD-LGA @ 755AM With Andaz at 11am - doesn't compute for leader of the group? - Arrive at LGA at 10:59am, collect luggage, take cab to Andaz - Arrive at Andaz no sooner than 11:30am - hence start likely by noon. - Need to head out to JFK around 12:30pm. I was undecided about Andaz event - but likely not worth it. Sounds like it will be late starting, rushed, and likely not worth spending a night down on Wall St. on a Sunday night over Labor Day weekend. I am considering two options. (NYC downtown hotels are booked or very high rates. The Grand Hyatt at Grand Central has been sold out for some time.) 1. Take train to EWR on Sunday and spend the night at the EWR Marriott. Then on Monday am take trains (NJTransit+MTA E line) or buses (EWR-Grand Central, Grand Central JFK) to get to JFK around noon. 2. Fly IAD-JFK arriving at JFK around 10am - then just hang out and check in at LH at noon. Only concern is the flight is empty - and fear UA Express could cancel it.
There is a second flight which arrives from IAD around 1:30pm - normally connection to the JFK LH flight - it is half full so it will go - but what if mechanical problem? Plus I want to arrive earlier. Other option is US DCA-LGA but it is much more expensive - more than option 1. Plus bus from LGA to JFK is about $13. Train is about $50 from DCA, Marriott with tax around $130, commute to JFK from EWR around $15 to $30. Andaz will likely be $250+, plus you still have train, and transportation to JFK.
That is one of the reasons why I will be arriving on Sunday. Also have not decided on where to stay yet. Awaiting to see Andaz rate, but probably it will be the $250 bulk.
Well, if you and Cova do come in on Sunday, and if you decide to Andaz Wall St., may I suggest, if you arrive in the early afternoon, to walk down to the free ferry to Governor's Island, the old Coast Guard station that was sold to NYC for $1 and is a quiet, no cars, area with amazing views of lower Manhattan and the harbor of NYC and NJ. The old Officers' Quarters area is lovely and it's just so different a place than what you're likely used to in NYC. That it's Labor Day weekend won't matter then.
Transportation from Downtown Denver to DEN Airport. Looks like the SkyRide has replaced the SuperShuttle Blue van regular schedules. http://www.rtd-denver.com/skyRide_SubHome.shtml Departure is at Denver Bus Center at Curtis and 19th - about 5 blocks from Hyatt (4 blocks over and 1 up) Fare is $11 one way. Buses leave up until about midnight. Another option to get to DEN either on Sat night or Sun morning. Starts around 3am - another option if you have a 6am flight and want to stay at the Hyatt for the day and Sat night event.
staten island ferry is a nice ride too. Free and about 30 minutes each way. good view of statue and of the verrazano bridge
On supershuttle's website, quoted $15 per pax for a van for 10 people. Where is supershuttle being replaced? Just their scheduled stuff or are they no longer operating in DEN? I have an email to supershuttle to confirm they can take us from hotel to hotel vs. hotel to airport.
