What's your starting fare and YQ? I see $1230 and $450 YQ which isn't a great YQ% to start with. I can see $1080 a/i with $205 YQ remaining in my meagre list of 3Xs.
I see slightly cheaper prices pre and post dump, but in the same ballpark. Delaying your return by a day saves a couple of bucks as well, but nothing great.
I'm looking for a C1-C3 YYZ-NRT and KIX-YYZ flight around Apr 4-17. Found a UA flight pairing for $1483 AI with a $594YQ. Added on a C3 3X to make it a $1217 AI with $161YQ. Are there any other recommendations that you might have for me as a FD newbie? Is this a decent find? Also, even though I've done a lot of research, I'm still stumped as to what a pineapple poke and a 13 miler are - could I get a PM? Thanks!
That's a 36 hour flight, each way. The average flight is 16-18 hours with one stopover, but thanks for the suggestion. Hoping to get something with an average flight time.
Howdy, long time lurker & first-time poster. I see a couple people that need help in C3 so I'll share my spring break plans. You can remove a lot of fat if you do a short c3-c3 run after seeing the cherry blossoms. In my case it was c1-blossoms-c1 and then a quick duck-kimche run afterwards. Hope it helps!
UA SFO to HKG for $930.80 ai with $253 of fat in March. This seems like a decent candidate (I'm sure there are better), more for the routing flexibility/MR potential than the base fare itself. I'm still pretty new to this but was able to get a database of all the routings, calculate distances and identify some candidate 3X's. One question to the group: is there a particularly good resource to use for interlining agreements (who can be on the same ticket) and who has BSP agreements? I feel like that would be more intelligent than just blindly plugging in 3x's. Carrier booking software (and validation logic) may be of use to narrow down validating carrier, but I feel like I can find that part out. Cheaper candidate base fares c1-c3 and/or c1-c6 are certainly encouraged, I'm really flexible on dates and locations in south C3/C6 and am searching for similar flexible fares on NZ or SQ Let me know if I'm missing anything or if I'm posting too much, not intending to overstep Transfer restrictions 5 TRANSFERS PERMITTED IN EACH DIRECTION FREE 2 FREE IN THE UNITED STATES IN EACH DIRECTION 3 FREE IN AREA 3 IN EACH DIRECTION FARE BREAK SURFACE SECTORS NOT PERMITTED AND EMBEDDED SURFACE SECTORS PERMITTED ON THE FARE COMPONENT. thats an mix of two tickets. One of them are an award ticket where you need 20000 miles fore it. Only possible if you can start in Central America.
I try to get a nice and cheap flight fare VIE-LAX-VIE or BUD-LAX-BUD (or any combination of that) in May/June 2012... For a while, I desperately tried to dump ST-fares with a juicy YQ of EUR 220 but - nothing. Old ST 3X don't seem to work anymore, but I know that a dump works and the clue is that there is "something that comes after the 3X" - whatever that might be. Tried everything, searched so many possible combinations in NA for days and days but - nothing. Finally I got desperate and booked a cheap basefare with the great airline from the country of flylo, using a tail from the "indian" old city to larry hagman. That worked great (nearly 50% YQ drop absolutely), but eDreams made troubles after booking the ticket and I'm afraid that deal will vanish in the end. So, for a few days now I'm back trying to dump Skyteam (I'd really love to try the A380), but with no result so far. The fare that I'm trying to dump is VIE-LAX LAX-BUD with Baguette, May 28th - June 9th. Fare is EUR 686, but with over 323 YQ. Can anyone drop me a hint? Dani
This is a bit odd. I was just searching for various 3xs and added one to a fare. The 3x has the fare basis code MRADDON!
Spent a lot of time on the other site and used to have a pretty good handle on the 3X and OJ game, but I've been out of the mix for a while. I need to fly PHX-PEK next month (3/1-3/9) on *A and can drop some of the $370 YQ with a $49 3X (trench) but still leaves $205. My dates are set so I don't expect a lot, but just wondering if anyone can do better. I've tried a lot of the 3x that I know but can't do any better. Love the attitude (or lack thereof) on this site and would appreciate any assistance!
I got one for 1-stops that dropped $188 fat for September. But I dont know if that is relevant to when you wanted to travel because it will probably be a diff 3x for that month. Good Luck
Hi everyone - been a long time reader on the FT, and recently started reading up FD on MP. I think I understand the concept, and I have even figured out a few of the 3x's (like 13 miler, pineapple poke (i think), and think i found a few potential other strikes in C3... the question i have is with the testing of the 3x's in the matrix. Do you have to select all of your flight segments and get to the end before you notice it works? So far I'm thinking no, I just want to make sure as I run through the potential list of candidates, I don't discount the need to go all the way through the matrix before stopping and moving on if I do not see the expected drop. I was able to use a C1-C2 with a C3 3x and drop about 25% of the YQ - so the mechanic's I think are sound, just gotta find the combination (and hoping to shave time off the process). Thanks in advanced. Owen
I think it depends. Sometimes you get an indication straight away, and sometimes you choose the first 2 segments and then matrix reprices and removes the YQ. I also have a script to do this automatically which supplies the first 2 segments and a 3x in the same query and sometimes it finds a price that doesn't appear if you do exactly the same thing manually and you can only find if you used a third party booking engine. It's all a bit of a mystery what works and what doesn't.
Newbie here - but think I'm starting to get the hang of it, a bit. One question I had - right now there are a few good business class sales C1-C2, C1-C4. Is it ever possible to FD a J or Z fare? Found a 3x that seems to work in theory with a decent FD, but haven't tried to purchase it yet and searched, but haven't noticed any posts of anyone trying to do this. Thanks!
Excellent idea! I'm new here (elizadoo on FT and kimanjo at Trip Advisor) and as experienced as I am in all things travel--44 countries and counting--I've been trying to decipher the FD lingo at FT for 2 years now. Pages and pages of notes lead me nowhere. Discussing the clues with hubby (PhD, JD, Mensa member) frustrates us both. I've learned how to work the ITA software, figured out how to read the codes and force changes in routes (some of which showed up even cheaper on know) One great thing I did discover, however, is a major, transcontinental route that does not charge a YQ and has a very cheap base rate. So, where do I post this info? Do I keep it in my own personal file, to be divulged to nobody? Seems like poor sportsmanship. I'm thinking, sure, maybe the airline reps are just browsing through this (and FT) looking for loopholes. But truly, I don't think they have the time or manpower to follow every post on these boards. Good to be here.
Another suggestion is that a couple of us newbies could put our heads together (two heads being better than one) and share what we know and see if we can crack this together. We are all off trying hard to figure this out and I bet that there is a lot of duplication of effort. We all know better than to ask for direct help as we have seen others crash and burn and nobody wants to on the receiving end of a public dressing down so to speak....we all have our pride. I am in DUB and am particularly interested in destinations such as GIG, BKK and DXB. For example, currently looking at €456 A.I from the Liffey to the Burj on ST which has €306 of fat. Anyway, if any other newbies would like to form a discussion group where we could share what we know and be free to ask questions openly, please PM me.
