Has anyone flown flight 79 from EWR to NRT? I was able to find 4 seats in C for our family. We got the okay from schools and work that we can fly...my wife will miss out on F via MUC (thanks to all the MPers that gave me the pointers - esp MSPeconomist and Jimgotkp). We will continue to SIN on NH901. Not that I am complaining, but should I be concerned that there are so many available seats on this flight in C or is it just that UA is much more generous that the international airlines?

It will fill up. You'll be surprised.

Yes, I've taken the flight. I rather enjoyed it. I'm actually surprised that there were 4 BF award seats available but congrats to you for getting them.

And I would bet that the front cabin goes out full or close to it.

Cool! Thanks for the confirmation. BTW, Seth, your search tool is awesome! . Helped me find some interesting options before we got the okay to fly together. If only you also had a OW one, then I'd be set for my travel needs to SEA

Anything ex-EWR to Asia usually fills up so good on you!

A OW option is on the road map, but no guarantees.

very cool. actually on the phone with UA agent now. There was a glitch in the system...shocking , and there is only one C ticket on the NRT-SIN leg. I guess my wife is sitting there and I will be in the "kid section" on the ANA portion of the flight.

Depending on your status, keep an eye on availability and as it may open up and you can move up on that segment... 1Ks can do so with no fees... others may be charged.

I have on hold our three tickets with C going to NRT and Y going to SIN. They said that since I am paying the saver business rate, i would be able to move up if something opens up with no fee. If i booked both segments on Y, then I would have paid $75 per ticket to move up.

This is key. Because you booked the higher award level in the first place and "voluntarily downgraded" to the available seats there is no charge for the change. It is one of many very nice benefits in the rules.
