When the only argument made is misguided and irrational it should not be surprising that the responses are less than agreeable. When the same argument is repeated without acknowledgment of said reality it becomes a joke.

    AND......

A perfect time for everyone to take a deep breath. We all have plenty to complain about and plenty to be thankful for. As some have mentioned, MP is a place to share ideas and learn/teach, with the occasional debate thrown in for good measure.

I think it's a good time for everyone to agree to disagree. We all want the same thing, more benefits, more shiny toys. Let's all agree we'll go about different ways to get there.

    Woosah......

I want a unicorn and an oompah-loompah, too.

I am actually not entirely sure we all want the same things. I know that what I value in a program is different from others. Pretending that we're all after the same goal actually doesn't make a ton of sense to me.

what was the poem the guys read in boondock saints before they killed someone? I want to read that aloud and then put a bullet in the back of the thread.

    And shepherds we shall be,
for thee my lord for thee.
Power hath descended forth from thy hand
so our feet may swiftly carry out thy command.
And we shall flow a river forth to thee
and teeming with souls shall it ever be.
In nomine Patris, et Fillii, et Spiritus Sancti.

I agree. We all want to share and spread knowledge. Let's further discussion and be able to politely agree or disagree.

I said we all want more benefits and shiny toys. I agree that different people want different things from the programs. But, I doubt too many of us would turn down more benefits. :)

Wise words. Like the female protagonist in James Thurber's classic short story, A Couple of Hamburgers, I'm willing to wait. :)

Right, but in this case a number of folks have identified the increased benefits that they will see as a result of the program changes. Yet we're still being inundated with posts that the program has been radically devalued, ignoring the parts where the value has increased.

In that MileagePlus will not be providing me with CPUs and an oompah loompah I've learned that perhaps it is better to not tilt at windmills all day long.

I guess I must have been "over entitled" by flying the 1.5MM on UA and expecting them to honor their promised lifetime benefits.

They are honoring them, other than substituting a generally/arguably more valuable benefit in place of the regional upgrades.

3'rd tier status, no regional certs, no 100% bonus--what's more valuable? Spouse benefit--are you kidding?

50k status benefit - same. This was never promised as "second tier".
100% bonus - never promised as part of the program
Spouse benefit - better than a couple of upgrades for an awful lot of people.

Ua promised premier exec, the 50k eqm level. They never promised not to add more tiers, never promised to not change the benefits of that tier (would you prefer to earn and burn sticker upgrades while regular 50k flyers get unlimited upgrades? It's not like the 2011 benefits had been unchanged for anything approaching a long period of time.

Did you really miss the first 260 or so posts in this thread? ;)

no did not miss them -just don't agree fully--point was this must be one of the so called over entitlements that UA's CFO is busy bragging they've ended

I agree that the regionals are a legitimate difference in the mm program, and at a glance it would not seem prohibitively expensive to offer them. It just seems that people focus so much on the clear devaluation of the 50k mile tier but frame it as a mm issue.

I do think the MM RDM bonus being reduced from 100 percent to 50 percent is really a huge loss for lifetime 1Ps and makes MP uncompetitive with AA and others.

US Airways: MM gets you DM Silver (25% RDM bonus). DM Gold (equivalent to Premier Gold, has *G) gets you 50% RDM bonus.
LH: 25% executive bonus. SEN (*G equivalent) takes 100,000 EQM a year. Oh, and for HON (LH equivalent of GS)... Y no longer counts at all for getting you to HON.
SQ: KF Elite Gold (equivalent to Premier Gold, has *G)... 25% bonus.

So, honestly? Handing out 50% RDM at that level isn't as unheard of as you think within *A. But hey, if you want to walk to DL, enjoy your 100% bonus of SkyPesos...

    You forgot:
AA: MM gets Gold(25k flown mile status), with 25% RDM bonus, 2MM gets platinum, with 100%RDM bonus, 1-time set of SWUs, no complimentary upgrades

Really not sure how UA's MM benefit of 50k mile status, complimentary upgrades, companion status match is uncompetitive with AA 1MM.

The 50k flyer status benefits may not match up well with what much of the domestic competition provides at 50k miles flown, but no one else is providing that at 1MM.

Not entirely correct. AS gives out MVP Gold at 1MM, their midtier elite status- but it's all BIS on AS (which means a lot of flying, since AS doesn't fly anything with longer range than a 738),

It's the spouses who travel a bit but not a ton that benefit most. I'd be much, much happier to play the upgrade with my wife at equal status on a handful of leisure travels together, and when we may be able to schedule flights that are not elite heavy, than I would be to confirm upgrades for a meaningless round trip by myself, or one-way with my wife.

I'm not affected either way, but I value upgrade chances for her a heck of a lot more than I do for me.

Precisely.. So here is the list for US-based carriers' MM program at 1MM:

DL- Silver Status [lowest], nothing else
AA- Gold Status [lowest] and 35K bonus miles, nothing else
US- Silver Status [lowest], nothing else
AS- Gold Status [mid-tier] along with 4 annual worthless one way upgrade certs, nothing else

UA- Gold Status [mid-tier] and *A Gold status that comes along with it for lounge access, spouse benefits, and 25% more RDMs than their major competitors.

IMO, UA has the best US-based MM program and they kept the program above the competition rather than just matching everyone. I think they should get some credit for that :-:
