Why *A?they have Air New Zealand(and OW has Qantas)....us Scaryteam fliers need an airline into Australia and KE/DL ain't the best ones for that

I wonder how this announcement relates to the enhanced codesharing with DL that was just announced.

With DL codeshare with V Australia and their interest in Virgin Atlantic to get a foothold at Heathrow, I could see Virgin Australia going Sky Team along with most of the other airlines in theVirgin Group (dont know about Virgin Ameerica)

In Australia at the moment there is no *A domestic carrier, it would help my *A points to have one

Rumors of VS going Skyteam have been going around for a while....We'll see where it goes.
I don't think VX will go for an alliance anytime soon,they're leaking money( I don't think any alliance would like to take on a sinking ship) and a real FF program(gotta recognize *A/G OW Ruby etc) would probably further kill VX...
But Virgin Australia going Skyteam sounds likely, again considering the new codeshare agreement with DL.
However..

AS codeshares a ton of flights with DL and has elite reciprocity but I will assure you that DL is not buying out AS anytime soon...yes, this is a silly example but you get my point....

I think rumours of DJ (will they still use that airline code???) of joining an alliance going around for sooooo long. I wish they would hurry up and join someone!

If they join an alliance, finally QF will surely have to react and pro-actively to compete again them.

DJ joining either skyteam or *A would be a hit or miss both ways.

DJ has full codesharing on Trans Tasman with NZ so leaning towards *A here but then DL and Skyteam would not match.

DJ has hopefully full codesharing with DL so obviously going to Skyteam here would be beneficial but then how this would hold up with NZ no idea.

Think from the screenshot from V Aus other day they will switch to VA code

Not yet confirmed. My Source inside Virgin has advised that they would possibly use the DJ code... but time will tell.

Because that would give *A full coverage of Australia.

They seemed adamant at the launch that alliance membership wasn't in the near future. IMHO the revamp of the FF program (there go my points) may be a precursor but they were also adamant that their code-share alliances were more important. Still, tomorrow is another day, as they say, and anything is possible.

Didn't there used to be one? Something called Ansett? And who occupies the old Ansett gates now?
