I hope UA doesn't match. Or if they do, it will count towards previously booked travel.

    Because this situation benefits me.

I saw this movie. (1) Ask her whether she's married! (2) Give your extended family a call on the holidays.

I don't know what United stands to gain by matching this, they aren't anywhere near as unstable as AA. I think the only reason they are doing this is to keep people who were leaving from leaving, not to gain people or get people to fly more (although there will be some of those people).

I've only got a few thousand mores miles left this year, and those will get me to status by a few hundred, so double does nothing.

I'm in the same boat as you kziel. But, I have several flights booked for January that I wouldn't mind getting extra EQM's for :)

Simple fact is that UA is not concerned about losing elite members below 1K. They already feel that their product and program is the best in class and would only provide these opportunities with huge caveats like the previous AA match but with W and up fares.

I foresee at most, a match of some sort with huge caveats but likely, no match at all.

DEQM would get me from 82k EQM to 84.5k EQM for this year, which I guess would add a minimal amount to my lifetime total. I certainly wouldn't mind an early EQM boost in January, though, meager though it may be (who really knows this far out, right?? ;))

All in all, I'm not in a situation where it would really benefit me for 2011, and it would have a potentially minimal impact in Jan 2012, so I could take it or leave it.

I'm selfishly hoping for a match. Have 30k miles scheduled in January.

I hope they match. I might fly to PEK if they match in January.

Count me in the looking for a match club.
Need 5k EQMs by the end of the year, don't have the time for a transcon MR, and the $600+ it would take at the current $.13/EQM elite maximizer rate doesn't scream valuetown to me.

I don't understand the thought that UA needs to match in order to keep elites from defecting. If I were a UA elite (particularly top tier), I don't understand how one month of 2012 DEQM's at another airline would make me permanently switch who my primary carrier is.

It won't. And it won't make anyone switch to AA. I think AA's hope is that it will get their existing elites to up their AA bookings a bit, or stick with AA for a few flights that they might have considered flying on another airline. But let's face it - with a one-month promotion, there's not a lot of time for anyone to really earn a lot of EQMs on this.

Y'all are overthinking this. The promo is intended to:

    1. Lessen the inevitable near-term drop in forward bookings (which hurts cash flow and cash-on hand balance) when a major airline files for Chapter 11; and

    2. Incentivize AA elites to stick with AA.

UA may well match, but it would be on different commercial grounds:

    1. To mollify UACO elites who have experienced a somewhat stressful time recently with an airline network that operates like one in some ways (e.g. Pricing), and like two separate in every manner inconvenient to us (e.g., mixed carrier elite upgrades).

    2. Prompt some discretionary ticket purchases.

Many businesses and individuals I know will definitely schedule more flights in January if UA matches this, myself included.

Any good fare to PEK in January?
  6. genemk2 Gold Member

I see $1200 for a 2 night stay at the end of January -- others are in the $1500+ range. But with DEQM it won't be so bad -- basically saves me from having to do another intl run later in the year. Also, depends on where you are flying from -- I'm leaving from LAX.

UA should match to keep up with AA. Maybe AA will then up the ante to a triple EQM offer.:D There has not been any systemwide decent offers from Mileage Plus in a long time now. Come on United, let's keep up with the competition.
  7. meFIRST Silver Member

This both make sense. Its so complicated I actually use a travel agent to do mixed bookings, which allows me to keep the CO code and UA code, and well as other customizable options.

Would be a nice welcome to new United promo, to coincide with the death of .bomb

But I thought LHRGUY is now flying AA?
  8. meFIRST Silver Member

OMG, I just went over to the AA forum, and it looks like some have already discovered a way to stack the LAX/SFO-DFW DEQEM promo for the new DEQM promo for triple EQM !!!!

Combined with the employees, AA's own customers will run the company into the ground. Headed for "crash and burn"

Now the question becomes, will UA match the TRIPLE EQM? (Good heavens...)

a DEQM promotion would bring me up from gold to Plat for 2012 based on previously scheduled travel...so yes, i hope for a match.

I'll have 90K EQM by the end of February just with what I have booked already on AA. Could very well hit 100K in the same month and I'll have 24 months worth of use for my systemwides.

Because of a 6 week promotion? I don't see that happening. I can fly every single day during the promo, but the more typical AA traveler doesn't have the flexibility I have and might only have a few trips in that window.

Change of plans means I'm really hoping for a match -- I just had to buy a ticket from LAX-DME-LAX straddling the new year, and the 2012 leg is on a B fare.
