Just thought about it, I believe this depends, do I want to go to Rome or not. When I would have been to Rome and have experienced the city than I would take the cash on the other side when it was my first time in the Italian capital I would probably take the trip. It truly depends what's on offer eg. what's the hotel for example and at which date I would take the trip.
Thanks for the tip. I would probably take the cash, so I would have funds to pay the taxes. I could then get to Rome with ff miles and stay at less expensive hotels. Or go somewhere else.
I hear ya. I've been to Rome already so the cash would serve me better so I could visit a new place! Good thinking! I also thought about the taxes on the trip and prefer the option to go wherever I want with the cash!
I'll take the cash not just because I'd need to half to pay the taxes but also because flying to Rome in coach from the West Coast doesn't sound like a whole lot of fun.

Great question! I've won a couple of small ones. Too bad the prizes werent trips! Not sure if any readers have... I hear that & agree although my next flight is in biz!
Agreed. They're fairly generous in the conditions when you look at the fine print, but the whole thing is also fairly restrictive... So you're basically on your own... nice trip (Y seat notwithstanding) but you get no choice in the matter when it comes to the flight or the hotel, other than when it is as long as it's not blacked out and within a year of winning. Personally I would take the cash as well... it's hard to consider US --> Rome in coach the beginning (or end) of a relaxing vacation. I mean I'd do it if I had to, but if you win it in a trip you're really just winning deep vein thrombosis. But I'm sure if necessary, quite a few people here could take that $4k prize and turn it into the same trip plus earn stay credit, miles and points for it.
