How the Avios refund rule works
- Ticket refund triggers Avios removal – When a customer requests a refund for any reason, the extra 9,000 promotional Avios earned for that ticket are withdrawn from the Iberia Plus account View from the Wing One Mile at a Time .
- No separate Avios reimbursement – The airline’s terms do not provide a mechanism to convert Avios back into money or another credit; the points are just deducted Points with a Crew .
- Redemption deadline matters – Even if you keep the Avios, they must be redeemed by 1 December 2018, after which any unredeemed points are also removed One Mile at a Time .
What you can do instead
- Keep the Avios – If you do not request a ticket refund, the points remain in your account for up to 36 months of activity (per the general Iberia Plus rules) One Mile at a Time .

In short, you can’t receive a monetary refund for Avios; the only “refund” is the automatic removal of the points when you cancel a qualifying ticket.
