Best airline rewards program for travel between USA and Europe?
47% Running with Miles
26% One Mile at a Time
27% Other
Choosing the best airline rewards program for flights between the United States and Europe depends on a mix of award pricing, transfer bonuses, and extra fees.
Flying Blue (Air France‑KLM)
- Flying Blue frequently offers business‑class awards to Europe for roughly 40‑45 k miles, and the 25 % transfer bonus from Chase Ultimate Rewards highlighted in June 2025 dramatically reduces the points you need to book those seats.
Aeroplan (Air Canada)
- Aeroplan stands out because it imposes no fuel surcharges on routes such as Brussels, Swiss, Turkish, and United, and its first‑class award sits between 62.5 k and 70 k miles one‑way, making it a solid option for premium travel without extra fees.
United MileagePlus
- United’s award chart lists economy tickets to Europe at about 30 k miles one‑way and business‑class at 66‑77 k miles, with the added benefit of free changes or cancellations when booked 31 days in advance, providing flexibility for travelers.
Asiana Club (Star Alliance)
- Asiana Club offers a highly competitive first‑class rate of 50 k points one‑way between the U.S. and Europe, though availability windows are short, it can be a lucrative choice for those who can secure the seats quickly.
Aegean Miles+Bonus
- Aegean’s program allows business‑class travel between the U.S. and Europe for 45 k miles on Star Alliance carriers, and a 1:1 transfer from SPG’s Starpoints adds a 5 k‑mile bonus on each 20 k‑point block, effectively lowering the required mileage.
Identifying Travel Goals
This may sound obvious, but before you start collecting miles and points, it really helps to know how you’re going to want to travel, and maybe even where you’re hoping to go. Someone who wants to reduce the cost of taking their family of four to Disney World each year is going to need a different approach than the couple wanting to visit Southeast Asia. Business travelers looking to make their weekly “commute” more pleasant are likely going to have different priorities than someone planning a honeymoon. There isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution, and there is an added variable
Two Cool Business Class Awards for 40K SPG Points Each – If You Can Book Them
Edit: Sorry for any misunderstanding – I added the word “Each” to the title to make it more clear. I love checking out award charts for various frequent flyer programs. There are some true gems hiding in many of the smaller programs for sure! But, almost as fun is checking the region definitions of programs. Did you know that Israel is in 4 different region categories according to various programs? 🙂 Check out this new promo by Aegean that can help you earn 500 free miles – more if you are not yet a member! Unlock The Best June 2025 Chase Transfer Bonuses
I’ve always been fascinated by the power of loyalty programs and how they can transform everyday spending into extraordinary travel opportunities. Right now, Chase Ultimate Rewards® points are lighting up the stage with their June 2025 transfer bonuses, and I couldn’t wait to dive in and share some creative ways to leverage them for premium cabins, streamlined redemptions, and more. This month, Chase is offering a 30% transfer bonus to Avios and continuing a solid 25% bonus to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club until June 15, 2025. I’ve observed that such promotions tend to appear around peak travel seasons, helping
Awards To Book Before The Upcoming Aeroplan Devaluation
In late September I wrote about the Aeroplan program announcing an award chart devaluation. Aeroplan is Air Canada’s (spun off) loyalty program, and has some lucrative award costs, even for those who wouldn’t otherwise fly Air Canada. Air Canada 787 At the time, Aeroplan announced that their award costs would be adjusted for bookings made as of December 15, 2015, which is two weeks from today. If you’d still like to redeem Aeroplan miles at the old award levels, this is a good time to start finalizing those awards. Fortunately this award chart devaluation isn’t nearly
Looking for Best Award Flight Options for My Family Trip to Europe (Part Two)
In my previous post I talked about a few possible scenarios for our flights to Europe next summer. All of them involved using AAdvantage miles, which is my strong preference. I would much rather save my future stash of Membership Rewards for another redemption down the road. Eventually, I hope to get Amex Everyday, so I won’t be under pressure to use up MR points before the annual fees hit on our Amex Platinum cards. That said, things may not work out with AAdvantage because I sure as heck won’t be paying 65K or even 45K AA miles for
Asiana Club: The Most Lucrative Star Alliance Loyalty Program?
Double the pleasure, half the miles and a whole lot of other flying perks. The Asiana Mileage Club is the best kept secret in frequent travel – but perhaps not for long. No matter where you’re located, or which airline you frequent – Asiana may be the best choice for your airline loyalty, with benefits like lounge access, upgrades and more. Here’s why we think it’s the best frequent flyer program in the business. Star Alliance Gold, a status which rewards flyers with business class check in, security fast track and lounge access on all tickets, even economy, requires
Booked! 7 Business Class Awards to and from Europe – How We Did It
Finding international business class awards can always be an interesting exercise! For this summer, it is pretty much next to impossible for many destinations. Fortunately, we are planning to travel next winter so that makes it easy – but we needed 7 business class awards which is also a pretty hard thing to come by! Here is what we booked and how we did it. The most business class awards to/from Europe that we had previously booked was 6 tickets. You can read about that here. But, since then, we have another member of the family so if we
