Wild About Travel
Flying Finnair Four Times
I have never booked a flight to HEL before! Re-assuredly, I was also able to book flights out of HELsinki, the capital of Finland quite easily. I was bemused that one of my flights was AY 666 (Biblical number of evil) from Copenhangen to HEL. None of the crew or passengers were sprouting horns and the only non human creatures we encountered were popular Finnish Comic Moomin family products which the airline was selling on board. Of the 15 One World member airlines, I have now flown 11 of them (and two ex members!) for about 1.1 million

Review: Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-800 Economy (AUS-MSY)
I needed to travel between Austin and Baton Rouge for some meetings and ended up booking my first flight on Southwest in over a year. With limited options into Baton Rouge, I opted for a nonstop flight to New Orleans and then rented a car to get the rest of the way. As I typically do, I started my search on Google Flights. The ability to search multiple destinations was great as I was trying to determine if it made more sense to connect and fly into Baton Rouge or take a nonstop to New Orleans and drive. Ultimately,

Fresh, Flavorful Fish In Finnair Business Class
Each week, my Meal of the Week feature examines an airline meal from my travels over the years. This may be a meal from earlier in the week or it may be a meal served over a decade ago. After takeoff, flight attendants offered a beverage service with an amuse bouche (fennel, apples, peas, whitefish, and caviar). I tired the signature cocktail, called Blue Sky, featuring blueberry liqueur and champagne. It was excellent…a great juxtaposition of sweet and tart tastes. Flight time to Beijing is short…we were in the air for only about seven hours. While Finnair offers

My Favorite Seat On A Plane
I love to fly in fancy airline seats. There’s nothing like flying in a lie-flat seat and getting to recline back and catch a few ZZZs at 35,000 feet. It’s even more important if you’re going to be on a plane for 18 hours. We can use miles to book flights when traveling over the Atlantic or Pacific oceans, but most of our flights are short trips within the continental U.S. Typically, we fly in economy with American, Delta, JetBlue, or Southwest, and it’s not worthwhile to use miles or cash to upgrade to first class. However, there’s

SNAPSHOT: Finnair 1335 Helsinki to London Heathrow
It’s time for another snapshot featuring the passenger experience for Finnair 1335 between Helsinki and London Heathrow. For those of you who are new to the blog: Exiting my arriving flight at Helsinki, there was no border or security check. The aircraft had docked in the new 40 wing of the airport. Finnair have their temporary lounge near Gate 51 for Non-Schengen passengers. This lounge can get horrendously busy during peak hours -but quiet otherwise. Boarding Originally, Gate 42 in the new boarding complex was assigned. This changed to a bus gate – keeping
