American Airlines ticket prices can differ widely depending on the route, class of service, and any promotions.

  • A business class ticket from Indianapolis to Cancun was listed at about $1,876, which was $160 cheaper than a comparable Southwest flight.
  • American Airlines offers a discount program called “AA20” that provides 20% off tickets for employees and family members.
  • Basic Economy tickets no longer earn miles or loyalty points, and fees for checked bags have increased, but specific ticket prices are not detailed in the sources.

American Airlines: Your Loyalty No Longer Matters If You Buy The Cheapest Fare
A week and a half ago American Airlines announced three changes that have a common theme: you’re no longer a valuable, loyal customer when you travel with them when you buy the cheapest fare. Your loyalty doesn’t matter, even if you’re spending $30,000 a year on tickets and putting all of your spending on their credit card. If you fly expensive tickets for work, and then you’re cost conscious on a weekend trip with your family of four, you will be treated well when you fly those expensive tickets – but not on that trip with your family when

Airlines Keep Selling First Class For $26 — Killing The Reason To Chase Their Top Status
Delta Air Lines led the industry in eliminating first class upgrades. Twenty years ago 90% of first class seats went to upgrades and awards. Ten years ago it was about half. Now only around 12% of seats are left for SkyMiles elite members. And that means on many routes and flights there are no upgrades at all. Other airlines have copied Delta, monetizing their first class cabins for ‘tens of dollars’ – they will sell once a year coach passengers an upgrade for $26 or $40 rather than giving it free to a $30,000 a year customer. American Airlines Unveils New Main Cabin Dining Options With Expanded Snacks and Meals
American Airlines is upgrading its inflight dining experience in the Main Cabin with a broader selection of snacks and meals by rolling out new options beginning today, May 1st. Leading the refresh is the new Inflight Bites box. It’s available for $10 or 1,000 AAdvantage® miles. Designed as a celebratory offering, the box includes a mix of savory and sweet items: The curated assortment reflects a more diverse and premium snack experience compared to traditional onboard offerings. American is also introducing a partnership with NUTS ON CLARK, a family-owned Chicago business known for its freshly prepared snacks

American Airlines Loyalists Don’t Get Elite Benefits in Basic Economy
American Airlines really does not want you to purchase Basic Economy tickets. As of December, AAdvantage members no longer earn miles or Loyalty Points for these cheapest tickets. Then American Airlines increased fees for checked bags by $10 for everyone, but increased them by $15 for those flying Basic Economy. But it didn’t end there. For Basic Economy tickets purchased on or after May 18, 2026, all customers will have to pay for seat selection and will not be eligible for complimentary and systemwide upgrades. So it doesn’t matter what kind of status you have in the AAdvantage program. Starting later in 2026, American Airlines will downgrade Basic Economy passengers who are AAdvantage® members without status or specific co-branded credit cards to Group 7 boarding. Those with status or qualifying credit cards will at least maintain priority boarding even when flying on a Basic Economy ticket.

American AAdvantage Sweet Spots That You Can Actually Book
Last month, I published an article titled “The Only Place You Should Send RBC Avion Points is American AAdvantage.” As a follow-up, let’s take a look at the best American Airlines AAdvantage sweet spots. The goal here is to focus on awards you can actually book. For example, I won’t be discussing Qatar Airways Qsuites because while Johannesburg – Doha – Montreal is a fantastic deal at 75,000 miles with minimal taxes and fees, availability is so poor these days that it’s really not feasible. I booked and flew this route myself in September 2024 (booked in March). I

20% transfer bonus from Chase Ultimate Rewards to Qantas
Chase is currently offering a 20% transfer bonus when you transfer Ultimate Rewards to Qantas Frequent Flyer. Like many transfer bonuses, this isn’t worth speculating on. However, Qantas does have a few sweet spots worth considering, and if you find availability for one, it will be all the tastier. The Qantas award chart is distance-based. Miles required are calculated based on the cumulative distance of your trip, whether one-way or round-trip – a refreshing change from some oneworld programs. This means that there is generally an advantage to booking a round trip since additional segments will not be

Ohio Woman Looks Up Southwest Flight From Indiana To Cancun. Then She Realizes It’s Cheaper To Fly American Airlines In First Class: ‘Why?’
It’s no surprise that people want to escape Ohio in the dead of winter. Trading gloomy grey skies for the sunshine and salt of Cancun seems like a no-brainer. The only obstacle? Planning a trip that doesn’t break the bank. One optimistic traveler started planning a trip where she always starts: with Southwest Airlines. But on that site, Heather, a travel expert for all-inclusive senior class adventures (@seniortripplanner) ran into a horrible realization. “In case you needed proof that Southwest has officially lost it, I’ve got it for you,” she says. Then she reveals the cost of a
