Finnair’s Business Class offers a unique “no‑recline” seat that still provides a fully flat sleeping surface.

Seat design and lay‑flat mechanism

The AirLounge seat is a fixed‑shell “sofa‑style” seat that does not recline with a motor but creates a lie‑flat surface by flipping up a panel that bridges the seat and footwell.
When the footwell is raised to a horizontal position, the seat base lifts, allowing the passenger to lie flat at an angle rather than a straight line.
Finnair describes the experience as more of a lounge than a traditional seat, requiring the traveler to shift position much like on a couch. Live and Let’s Fly +3

Aircraft variants and configurations

Finnair retrofitted both its A350‑900 and A330 long‑haul fleets with the AirLounge product.
On the A350‑900, the airline operates two configurations: one with 30 business‑class seats and another with 43 seats, all arranged in a 1‑2‑1 layout.
The A330 version also features the same fixed‑shell seat, providing a consistent product across the fleet. Live and Let’s Fly +3

In‑cabin amenities

Each AirLounge seat includes a large side table equipped with wireless charging.
A built‑in cabinet houses a handheld IFE control unit as well as USB‑C and USB‑A charging ports, plus a universal AC outlet near the feet.
Reading lights and a personal amenity kit—often supplied in partnership with Finnish design brand Marimekko—complete the cabin experience. Live and Let’s Fly +2

Finnair’s Business Class delivers a lie‑flat sleeping experience through its distinctive AirLounge design, offering a consistent, lounge‑like environment across its long‑haul aircraft.

NEW ROUTES 2026 #9: Finnair launches Melbourne to Helsinki via Bangkok
Savvy travellers have been picking up fares that are mainly flown on Finnair between Australia and Helsinki for some years. They have been marketed at competitive prices, especially in Business Class. This has been very attractive, if you don’t mind a stop in Asia, and possibly another in Helsinki, if that’s not your final destination. The Business Class Skylounge, non-reclining seat, seems to divide people. Personally, I loved the seat, as experienced on a Qantas flight to Bangkok on a wet-leased Finnair aircraft. The new route between Melbourne and Helsinki via Bangkok is set to start on 26 October

Review: Finnair A350-900 Business Class
Although it was only a short journey from Amsterdam to Helsinki, I quite enjoyed the Finnair A350-900 in business class…the onboard experience was lovely. The delay that caused me to misconnect in Helsinki? Not so lovely. This was my first time flying the Finnair A350 since the premium cabin was retrofitted with new seats….that don’t actually recline. I used AA miles to book my ticket as part of a larger itinerary from Hong Kong – Amsterdam – Helsinki for 75K miles and less than $100 in taxes/fees. I was checked in for this segment in Hong Kong so

Finnair Business Class Review, Is the No-Recline Seat Worth It?
On a recent trip to Finland, I combined multiple loyalty currencies to build out an itinerary that included one aviation bucket-list experience and two long-haul segments on Finnair. The routing required separate tickets, overnight layovers, and some strategic seat selection, but it also offered a useful opportunity to evaluate Finnair’s unique long-haul business class product across two distinct flights. After flying to Doha on Qatar Airways Qsuites using Alaska Atmos Rewards, I needed to position onward to Finland. I was able to secure a business-class seat on Finnair’s Airbus A330 from Doha to Helsinki for 45,000 Alaska Atmos miles

Review: Finnair A350 Economy Class, Premium Seat (HEL-LHR)
| THE ALVIATOR'S VERDICT This is one of the most glamorous ways to travel intra-Europe. My only minor gripe is that I'd have expected these seats to be free of charge to select if you're already on a premium economy itinerary | 4.5 | As the last leg of my mad trip to Shanghai and Helsinki, I flew Finnair’s A350 economy class from Helsinki to London. This was off the back of a premium economy itinerary that I had flown from Shanghai, and I decided to purchase an upgrade to a premium seat on this shorthaul leg, as it
