If you’re looking for the most comfortable United Polaris experience on a typical long‑haul flight such as United’s UA 30, the seats that combine privacy, direct aisle access, and the full‑flat bed tend to be the top choices.
Seat layout and privacy
- On the Boeing 787‑10, United’s Polaris cabin uses a 1‑2‑1 layout so every seat has direct aisle access and a privacy door, making window seats like 11A especially appealing.
- The newer 787‑9 “Polaris Studio” introduces alternating seat orientations, with some seats facing inward in a reverse‑herringbone pattern and others outward, adding variety while still offering lie‑flat seats and privacy. 🔗
- United’s narrow‑body A321XLR Polaris seats are herringbone‑oriented toward the aisle and include privacy doors, which are space‑efficient but generally considered less comfortable than window‑facing seats. 🔗
- The Coastliner A321neo’s redesigned Polaris cabin provides all‑aisle‑access lie‑flat seats with increased elbow and shoulder room and lower suite walls that balance privacy with an open feel.🔗
Amenities that enhance the seat experience
- All Polaris seats come with a fully flat 6’6″ (198 cm) bed, a day blanket, duvet, large pillow, and a cooling‑gel foam pillow, which reviewers consistently rank as some of the best business‑class bedding.
- Wireless charging, ambient‑lighting controls, and larger seat‑back screens are standard on the newer Polaris products, adding convenience for long flights. 🔗
- A self‑serve snack bar and upgraded meal service are available on many Polaris routes, offering additional comfort during the journey.🔗
Choosing the best seat for UA 30
- If you prefer a window view and maximum privacy, select a window seat in the front section of the cabin (e.g., rows 1‑5 on a 787‑10) where the seat backs are angled away from the aisle and the privacy doors are fully enclosed.
- For travelers who value direct aisle access without sacrificing privacy, any seat in the middle or rear sections of the 787‑10 or the Coastliner A321neo provides a lie‑flat bed with a privacy door and easy aisle entry.
- On narrow‑body aircraft like the A321XLR, choose a seat near the front of the Polaris cabin to benefit from the slightly larger elbow room and quicker service, though the herringbone orientation means you’ll face the aisle rather than the window.

Review: United Airlines 787-10 Business Class Los Angeles – London
My journey from Los Angeles to London on United Airlines was pleasant and restful onboard the 787-10 in Polaris business class. United’s consistent seat and excellent bedding make overnight flights to Europe a reliable choice, even if other parts of the soft product fall short. As I mentioned in the introduction to this trip report, I booked into Premium Plus, United’s premium economy cabin, in order to maximize my upgrade chances. In retrospect, it seems that was not necessary, as I noticed a couple of employee standbys cleared into business class at the gate. It was a quiet

Inside United Airlines’ New 787-9 Elevated With Polaris Studio And 99 Premium Seats
As part of United Airlines’ media event in Los Angeles, I had the opportunity to step onboard its new Boeing 787-9 with the “Elevated” interior and walk through every cabin. I took photos of every seat and every angle, and now present a full tour of United’s most premium aircraft yet. I’ll reserve final judgement until I fly it, but United’s new Dreamliners certainly appear to be a step up (evolution, not revolution, though) from the previous generation. Aesthetically, they are very pleasing and seat features in every cabin mark an improvement of the passengers experience. The new

My First Domestic Polaris Flight On United Airlines Was Great, Except For One Thing
I flew from San Francisco to Newark in Polaris Business Class, my first time flying on a premium transcontinental flight on United Airlines since the carrier rebranded some of its domestic routes as Polaris. I Flew Domestic “Polaris” For the First Time On United Airlines United now sells longhaul Hawaii flights and transcontinental flights between Newark (EWR) and San Francisco (SFO)/Los Angeles (LAX) as United Polaris instead of United Business. Most importantly, that means that front cabin passengers receive Polaris Lounge access as long as they are not flying on a “basic” ticket. Let’s

150-Seat United Airbus A321XLR Joins Fleet, With New Polaris Seats, Snack Bar
In December 2019, United Airlines placed an order for 50 A321XLRs, which is Airbus’ new ultra long range and fuel efficient evolution of the A321. The plane entered commercial service in late 2024, with Iberia and Aer Lingus being the launch customers. As of now, United is expected to get its first A321XLR in early 2026, though of course that timeline could slip further. In this post, I’d like to take an updated look at United’s A321XLR cabins, as we increasingly have a sense of what to expect, thanks to JonNYC sharing the plane’s seat map. Note that

Flight Review: United Airlines Boeing 767-300ER Polaris® – EWR-LHR
We are on our way to Copenhagen to check out the Christmas market at Tivoli Gardens. I found a really cheap fare to London Heathrow Airport (LHR) from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) where we were visiting family for Thanksgiving. We’re connecting on British Airways in Club Europe (Business Class) and those tickets cost more than the transatlantic segment. I was able to upgrade the flights at booking with PlusPoints so that we could fly Polaris® for a fraction of the cost. Anthony’s Take: The flight from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to London Heathrow Airport (LHR) was uneventful.

13 Things United Airlines Does Well, From Routes, To Bedding, To Cold Brew
In the spirit of positive reinforcement, in this post I’d like to share the things that I think United Airlines does well. In separate posts, I’m taking a look at the things that American Airlines and Delta Air Lines do well, as well as my least favorite things about the “big three” US carriers. Among US airlines, there’s no denying that United is the carrier that has been gaining the most momentum and trending upward in the past couple of years, and that’s exciting to see. However, as you’d expect, much of that is still a work in progress.

United Brings Polaris® Lounge Access to Domestic Flights With New Coastliner Aircraft
United Airlines is introducing a major shift in its premium domestic travel experience, bringing its long-haul United Polaris® (Business Class) and lounge access to select transcontinental routes for the first time. At the center of this move is a new subfleet of Airbus A321neo aircraft, branded as “Coastliner,” which will begin flying later this summer between key hubs. The new Coastliner aircraft will operate on premium routes linking Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO) with Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and eventually New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) once United gets its
