Service Details
- The Shanghai–Buenos Aires route uses the 777-300ER for fifth-freedom operations, allowing tickets to be sold between Auckland and Buenos Aires.

It’s Sunday and the start of a new Lunar New Year, so it must be time for some more Airplane Art. This week, we have a China Eastern Airlines Boeing 777-300ER climbing out of Chicago O’Hare International as it begins the journey to Shanghai. China Eastern operate 20 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft in its long-haul fleet. The airline also operates the Airbus A330-200, Airbus A330-300, Airbus A350-900 and Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner for these operations. This aircraft – B-2003 – joined the China Eastern fleet in November 2014. It has remained in service with the airline since then. Whoa: China Eastern Airlines is Launching a Whopping 29-Hour Flight
I’ve taken some long flights from the United States to Singapore Changi Airport (SIN), Hong Kong International Airport (HKG), Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD), and others. Those seem like short hops compared to the flight that China Eastern Airlines is launching in December. It will offer nonstop flights that measure more than 12,229 miles and last a whopping 29 hours on the return. 29 Hours, One Seat: World’s Longest ‘Direct’ Flight Shanghai To Buenos Aires Coming In December
China Eastern will operate a 29-hour twice-weekly “direct” flight from Shanghai to Buenos Aires, via Auckland. On paper this becomes the world’s longest “direct” passenger flight — with a return block pushing ~29 hours. “Direct” here means one flight number and the same aircraft the whole way, even with a stop. It’s not non-stop but equivalnet to Qantas’ direct Sydney – London service that stops in Singapore, but a few hours longer.
