Lufthansa’s 747-8 seating plan is undergoing a phased retrofit with the new Allegris business class seats, resulting in a unique dual-product configuration during the transition. One Mile at a Time +1
Business Class Configuration
- Lower deck: 48 Allegris business class seats in a 1-1 configuration, offering direct aisle access, enhanced privacy, and premium amenities like wireless charging and larger storage.
- Upper deck: 32 older business class seats in a 2-2 layout, retained temporarily due to space constraints from the fuselage taper. These seats lack direct aisle access for some and have limited storage.
- The lower deck Allegris seats are available at a €300 surcharge, but many passengers are expected to be upgraded to them automatically due to high availability.🔗
First Class and Premium Layout
- First class remains in the nose with eight window-only seats, each featuring four panoramic windows. The layout is unique to Lufthansa’s 747, with no middle seats.
- A second phase, expected in 2027 or 2028, will replace the upper deck business class and first class cabins with updated Allegris products, though the first class version may differ from the standard.🔗
Cabin Capacity and Layout Changes
- Total seats reduced from 364 to 348 due to the retrofit.
- Premium economy increased from 32 to 40 seats. 🔗

- The lower deck Allegris layout alternates every other row, resembling United’s Polaris layout, and is optimized for the wider fuselage.🔗

- Best for solo travelers: 3K or 3A in first class for maximum window access and privacy.
- Best for couples: 1A and 1K in first class (if available) or 62A and 62K on the upper deck for direct aisle access and exit row comfort. 🔗
- Best for business class: Lower deck 1-1 seats (e.g., 1A, 1K) for full privacy and premium features.🔗

Lufthansa is in the process of introducing its new Allegris cabin concept, which includes an all-new first class and all-new business class. The new Allegris cabins debuted on newly delivered Airbus A350-900s, and we’re now also seeing them installed on newly delivered Boeing 787-9s (though those planes don’t have first class, and not all business class seats are usable yet… oy). Review: British Airways Business Class 747 Nairobi To London
I was departing Nairobi for London the same day I arrived in Nairobi from New York (well, technically I was departing just after midnight, but close enough). I spent the day at the Four Points by Sheraton Nairobi Airport. I’ll be reviewing that in my next trip report, since on my trip a week later I spent a full night there, rather than just an afternoon. I arrived at Nairobi Airport at around 9:30PM for my 12:15AM flight, and found a really long line to even get into the terminal, as there’s a security checkpoint when you enter the
