Cathay Pacific’s Airbus A350‑900 is a cornerstone of the airline’s long‑haul fleet, serving a variety of routes and offering a three‑class cabin configuration.
Fleet Overview
- Cathay Pacific operates a fleet of 30 Airbus A350‑900 aircraft, which have been part of the fleet since July 2017.
- The A350‑900 is used on both regional and long‑haul services, connecting Hong Kong to destinations such as Perth, Riyadh, Johannesburg, Osaka, Bengaluru, Shanghai and San Francisco.🔗
Cabin Layout and Seating
- The aircraft features a three‑class cabin with a total capacity of 280 passengers.
- Business Class comprises 38 seats in a 1‑2‑1 reverse‑herringbone layout, offering fully flat beds with a 45‑inch pitch and 20‑inch width. 🔗
- Premium Economy includes 28 seats arranged in a 2‑4‑2 configuration, providing a 40‑inch pitch and 20‑inch seat width. 🔗
- Economy Class contains 214 seats in a 3‑3‑3 layout, with a 32‑inch pitch and 18‑inch seat width. 🔗
- The economy seats were designed by London consultancy Tangerine and introduced in 2016, featuring a distinctive headrest with “wing” flaps that flip outward. 🔗
- Reviewers note that while the winged headrests are a unique feature, the overall seat design on the A350‑900 is considered weaker than on some other Cathay Pacific aircraft, though the cabin remains a fairly strong product with good catering and Wi‑Fi.🔗
Route Deployments
- The A350‑900 operates nonstop flights between Seattle and Hong Kong, maintaining the same three‑class configuration of 38 Business, 28 Premium Economy and 214 Economy seats.
- Seasonal services to Adelaide, Cairns and Christchurch use the A350‑900, offering fully flat Business Class beds, spacious Premium Economy seats and comfortable Economy cabins. 🔗
- The aircraft also serves the Hong Kong‑Munich route, operating four times weekly with the standard three‑class layout.🔗
Special Liveries
- To celebrate Cathay Pacific’s 80th anniversary, an A350‑900 (registered B‑LRJ) was painted in a retro “lettuce leaf sandwich” livery and launched on a flight to San Francisco.

Review: Cathay Pacific A350 Economy Class (LHR-HKG)
| THE ALVIATOR'S VERDICT The food on this flight was better than I was expecting, though this is my least favourite seat in Cathay Pacific's economy portfolio – which is a shame, given that these A350s operate the airline's longest flights. It was still an easy and comfortable flight in the grand scheme of things, though, with good amenities, inflight entertainment, and WiFi | 4.0 | While we review premium economy and business class cabins on the regular here at The Alviator, I’d like to start reviewing some longhaul economy class cabins as well. I’ve flown Cathay Pacific extensively

Cathay Pacific’s A350 Economy Class: A Couple More Design Flaws Than I Was Expecting
As part of my trip to Australia, I recently flew from London to Hong Kong in Cathay Pacific’s A350-900 economy class. Cathay Pacific has an extremely well-renowned economy class – it has won multiple awards as the world’s best economy class product. I’d say that overall, the flight itself was good – the seat was comfortable to sit and sleep in, the pillow and blanket were good, the inflight entertainment was easy to use and featured an excellent selection (although slightly higher latency than I was expecting), and WiFi was generally good. I’ve generally been quite impressed by Cathay

CATHAY PACIFIC: Seasonal Adelaide to Hong Kong flights start 11 November 2025
What is it with Adelaide at the moment? Everyone is starting international flights from there! First, Qantas flies to Auckland, the United flies to San Francisco, and now Cathay Pacific flies from Adelaide to Hong Kong. Cathay last flew to Adelaide from Hong Kong in March 2020, after flying to the city of churches since 1992. Due to the pandemic, the service was suspended for nearly six years. Back then, the route was flown by a Cathay Airbus A330-300, with the occasional Boeing 777-300ER substituted. Cathay Pacific will now fly to Adelaide as a seasonal route with an

Cathay Pacific’s Nonstop Flights Between Seattle and Hong Kong Restart Today
(Image Credits: Cathay Pacific.) Back in September 2025, I wrote about Cathay Pacific bringing back a route to/from the United States. It has officially relaunched the nonstop route connecting Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) and Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) today. The restarting service operates 5x weekly and represents the only nonstop connection between the Pacific Northwest region of the United States and Hong Kong. Cathay last flew this route in 2020. With the addition of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), Cathay Pacific now serves seven cities in the United States and nine across North America. The route launch comes

The move comes after the launch of its seasonal flights to Rome on 5 June and ahead of its return to Brussels on 3 August. The new route operates four times a week between Hong Kong and Munich, with an Airbus A350-900 providing the lift between the two cities. This features a three-class cabin (with Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy Class). We reviewed the business class seat on a medium-haul segment last year. It’s
