i have 450k delta points and live in detroit – what are some of the best destinations for redemption i should consider to use the points?
50% Miles to Memories
20% FrequentMiler
30% Other
With 450 k Delta SkyMiles you can mix a few of the standout redemption offers that have appeared for Detroit‑origin flights and stretch the balance across several trips.
Long‑haul international routes that give good value
- Detroit → Tokyo (any Tokyo Area airport) – 70 000 miles round‑trip + taxes Miles to Memories
- Detroit → Buenos Aires – 80 000 miles round‑trip + taxes Miles to Memories
These two trips alone would consume about 150 k miles, leaving plenty for additional travel.
Domestic and North‑American deals that are cheap in miles
- Detroit → Las Vegas – 27 500 miles round‑trip + taxes Miles to Memories
- Detroit → Toronto – 24 000 miles round‑trip Miles to Memories
- Detroit → Vancouver – mentioned as an attractive route in a flash‑sale discussion (exact mileage not listed) Miles to Memories
Even a handful of round‑trips to these cities would use under 100 k miles.
Caribbean and Mexico specials that stretch your points further
- Detroit → Cancún – as low as 12 000 miles round‑trip during a basic‑economy flash sale FrequentMiler
- Detroit → New York, Boston, Nashville, Austin – typically 9 000–11.5 k miles round‑trip in the same promotion FrequentMiler
These low‑cost options let you stack several short getaways while preserving the bulk of your balance for the pricier long‑haul flights.
How to allocate the 450 k miles
- Book the Tokyo and Buenos Aires trips (≈150 k).
- Add a Las Vegas round‑trip (≈27.5 k) and a Toronto round‑trip (≈24 k).
- Use the remaining miles for a few Cancún trips (12 k each) or other short‑haul flights, easily fitting two or three of those within the leftover ~250 k miles.
By combining one or two long‑haul redemptions with several inexpensive domestic or Caribbean trips, you can maximize the enjoyment of your 450 k Delta points while staying based out of Detroit.

One Day Delta Flash Sale – North America From 10,000 Miles
It was technically a 2 day Delta flash sale but it ends on Thursday so there is only one day left. There are also some pretty unique airports listed this time around. | Los Angeles, CA (LAX) | Vancouver, BC (YVR) | 10,000 miles + taxes & fees* | | | Portland, OR (PDX) | Seattle, WA (SEA) | 10,000 miles
Delta & Virgin-Atlantic to Codeshare with Jet Airways via London, System-Wide Redemption Opportunities Coming Soon
It was about 11 months ago when Delta and KLM announced a codeshare agreement with India’s Jet Airways that went into place earlier this year. The agreement allows Delta and KLM customers flying from Europe and the United States to Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport to connect onto Jet Airways’ daily flights to New Delhi and Mumbai, with onward destinations that include Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Kochi, Goa, Kolkata and Amritsar in India; Dhaka, Bangladesh; Kathmandu, Nepal; and Colombo, Sri Lanka. Well, today Delta and Virgin Atlantic announced a similar codeshare with Jet Airways via London-Heathrow. In addition, Delta SkyMiles, and
Delta & Etihad Need To Launch A Partnership, Pronto…
While I have no inside information suggesting that this will happen, I can’t help but point out how overdue it is for Delta Air Lines and Etihad Airways to launch a partnership with one another. I mentioned this in passing the other day when discussing the new joint venture between Etihad and China Eastern, but wanted to talk about it in more detail in this post. In this post: It’s interesting to see how the relationships are evolving between the “big three” US carriers and the “big three” Gulf carriers. Going back a decade, the major US carriers

Delta SkyMiles sheds SkyPeso moniker
For years, View from the Wing has teasingly referred to Delta SkyMiles as “SkyPesos.” And the Delta SkyPeso term has caught on, so much so that many people use the term without explanation. Given that Amex is currently giving away oodles of SkyMiles through their temporarily increased credit card offers, I figured that it was time to weigh in on whether Delta SkyMiles still deserves this title… Compared to its main rivals at the time — American Airlines, US Airways (now part of AA), United, and Continental (now part of United) – Delta SkyMiles were worth far less. Delta
(EXPIRED) Delta flash sale on basic economy to many destinations
Sorry, this deal is no longer available. Do you want to be alerted about new deals as they’re published? Click here to subscribe to Frequent Miler's Instant Posts by email. | |---| Delta is offering a flash sale to many destinations in basic economy class. In some cases, the deals are quite strong for those who don’t mind basic economy restrictions (keep in mind that Delta still allows a full-size carry-on for basic econ tickets). Destinations and dates vary and as usual do not get blindly boxed in by the advertised dates and cities since you may find deals
5 Delta SkyMiles Redemption Sweet Spots
For many years, Delta Air Lines SkyMiles has been the least valuable loyalty program among the three major US network carriers. While elite status benefits are roughly similar to American and United, redemption pricing is in a different league of uncompetitiveness, both relatively and objectively (based on my valuations of the points). Yet there are very attractive uses for your SkyMiles if you look beyond the USA. Here, I’ll highlight my top five Delta SkyMiles redemption sweet spots. It used to be rather easy to avoid Delta’s high US prices by adding a segment to Mexico at the end
Latest Delta Skymiles Flash Sale Is A Real Clunker!
Delta has been killing it lately with their plentiful and valuable Skymiles sales. The one this week is complete garbage though. This is the first time there hasn’t been any value offered at all. Let’s take a look: There are 21 routes listed on sale from 8 different departure airports. Most of the deals are for puddle jumpers. Here are the best of the bunch: Yup it is that terrible. I am not going to even list the terms because I doubt anyone will find these deals useful. As laughable as the Domestic deals are the Latin America deals are even worse. If you want a chuckle you should check them out. I can not even recommend one as a good deal. Hopefully this is an aberration and not a sign of things to come. These deals are pretty pathetic and most of them could be driven instead in a few hours time. I still got a good chuckle out of them though, that is something right? Happy Friday everyone – enjoy your weekend!
