I’m in FlyingBlue program, I have presently 522 miles and my anniversary is end of august, what is the best strategy to be platinum for Life ? I have validated 6 years already
30% FrequentMiler
27% View from the Wing
22% Miles to Memories
21% Other
To lock in a Lifetime Platinum tier you need to stay Platinum for ten full years, then the program will award you the “Platinum for Life” status Miles to Memories .
How to keep Platinum each year
- Earn at least 300 XP in every 12‑month membership year – that’s the re‑qualification threshold for Platinum Miles to Memories One Mile at a Time .
- Leverage the Air France‑KLM credit card:
- Spending $25,000 in a year gives 160 XP (20 XP anniversary + 80 XP for $15k + 60 XP for $25k) View from the Wing .
- The limited‑time welcome offer adds 100 XP after $3,000 spend in the first 90 days, pushing the first‑year total to 260 XP View from the Wing .
- Combine the card spend with the 5,000 bonus miles (which help offset the $89 annual fee) One Mile at a Time .
- Add a few qualifying flights to bridge the gap to 300 XP: an economy Chicago → Prague round‑trip yields 30 XP, a business‑class short‑haul gives 30 XP, and a first‑class long‑haul can add 75 XP FrequentMiler . A single short‑haul economy round‑trip (≈30 XP) plus the card spend usually gets you over the 300 XP mark.
- Consider Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) purchases if you need extra XP quickly – €10 (≈ $11.75) buys 1 XP, so $470 buys 40 XP FrequentMiler .
Building the 10‑year Platinum track
| Year | Card spend (XP) | Flight/SAF XP | Total XP | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 (2026) | $25k → 160 XP + 100 XP welcome | 30 XP (short‑haul) | 290 XP → add 10 XP via SAF or another short flight | Platinum |
| 2‑10 | $25k → 160 XP (no welcome) | 30‑40 XP (one or two short flights) | ≥ 200 XP + 100 XP (annual 20 XP + 80 XP) = ≈ 300 XP | Platinum each year |
By consistently hitting the 300 XP threshold with the card spend plus a modest amount of flying (or SAF), you’ll stay Platinum for ten consecutive years, which automatically upgrades you to Platinum for Life.
Quick‑action checklist
- Activate the Air France‑KLM credit card and meet the $25k annual spend target.
- Schedule at least one short‑haul economy round‑trip (or equivalent) each year to cover the remaining XP.
- Use the welcome bonus in the first year and keep an eye on any future promotional XP offers.
- Track your XP balance each anniversary (end of August for you) to ensure you stay above 300 XP.
Following this routine will let you convert your six‑year validation into a ten‑year Platinum streak and secure Lifetime Platinum status.
Considering Flying Blue Elite Status via Credit Card Spend? Buckle Up.
I described last week my first experience booking an Air France La Premiere award with only a brief reference to reaching Flying Blue Platinum, the level required to book it. Like many airline loyalty program setups, various methods exist to meeting it – including flights, credit card spend, or a combination of those and other methods. I focused on the second path. It was a bumpy, circuitous one with distractions, dead ends, and hazards along the way. Not every effort was successful, but I always kept in mind my intended destination. Air France-KLM Flying Blue Credit Card Changes Make Status Easier To Earn
The Air France-KLM Flying Blue program has a credit card in the United States, issued by Bank of America. It’s a card that I have, as someone who has Flying Blue Platinum status. We’ve just learned about some changes coming to the card, and they’re entirely positive, as I see it (thanks to Levi for flagging this). In this post: Over the coming weeks, we’re going to see some major changes to Flying Blue’s credit card in the United States. For one, in March 2026 we’re going to see the card converted from a Mastercard to a
(Update: Official change) Flying Blue members get better and/or cheaper award availability with Platinum elite status
Update 11/21/25: Back in July, Air France/KLM quietly implemented a change that gave those with Flying Blue Platinum and Ultimate status access to increased and/or discounted award availability. That wasn’t listed as an official benefit at the time, but One Mile At A Time notes that the list of elite status benefits now includes “Priority access to lowest Miles fares” for Platinum and Ultimate elite members. It looks like it offers a marked improvement. For example, in his post Ben shares screenshots from his Platinum account where there’s business class availability from New York to Paris for 60,000
Bank of America Leaks Flying Blue Card Changes Early—Much Faster Air France KLM Elite Status Earning
Air France KLM is out with a new value proposition for its Bank of America credit card in the U.S. – and it goes further earning elite status in the Flying Blue program. Existing cardmembers will get the new benefits starting in March. The card’s $89 annual fee doesn’t change. Information on the change was supposed to come out Wednesday, when applications for the product open. Bank of American emailed their existing cardmembers early. Flying Blue is the best program in SkyTeam, and they’re a points transfer partner of all the major bank currencies. But they also have
