Why Are Airplane Seats Blue?
Have you ever noticed that, regardless of what airline you use, the seats are usually some shade of blue? Granted, they may have a little splurt of color, like red or gray or yellow, but for the most part, they’re blue. And usually a pretty dark blue, at that. In fact, if you go searching, you’ll only find a handful of airlines with seats that aren’t blue. Emirates are brown and tan. Singapore Airlines’ seats are purple and gray. The Sukhoi Superjet‘s seats are gray with a strip of blue in them. SWISS’s Bombardier’s CS100 seats are grayish-white.

Review: Emirates Business Class Airbus A380 (JFK-MXP)
For the first segment of my quick trip to Paris and Cairo, I flew Emirates’ Airbus A380 business class on the 7hr10min overnight flight from New York (JFK) to Milan (MXP). This is one of the carrier’s more useful fifth freedom flights, and a fantastic way to travel between the United States and Europe. While I’ve flown Emirates first class a countless number of times over the years, this was my first time in roughly a decade flying the carrier’s A380 business class. So, how was my experience? On balance, Emirates’ A380 business class is pretty great. The

Trip Report: Qantas 93: Melbourne to Los Angeles
I actually started my flight in Auckland, New Zealand. The fare for Auckland-Melbourne-Los Angeles-Melbourne-Los Angeles was actually $A1000 less than the fare for Melbourne-Los Angeles-Melbourne. Combining two New Zealand trips in was easy for me. The Qantas website easily worked out the multi city fare and came up with a better fare than Expedia.com or Webjet or Kayak could find. Sometimes looking at the airline’s website can be a bonus. Trying the same search with Virgin Australia online was not possible. Seat selection was easy. All the preferred seats were gone, These included the exit row seats which

Flight Review: Delta Air Lines Airbus A330 Delta One® – FRA-JFK
We flew on ITA Airways from Brindisi Airport (BDS) to Leonardo da Vinci-Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) (review here) and then on to Frankfurt Airport (FRA) (review here). After staying the night, we were headed home on Delta Air Lines with the first flight to New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) before connecting to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD). Anthony’s Take: I am critical of United Airlines and sometimes seem like I favor Delta. I try to be as impartial as I can when I provide reviews. This flight was not a good one and I found the

Avianca Business Class 787 LAX TO BOG
Most of my friends know me as a weekend traveler and by that, I mean I travel across the world just for a few days to explore something new. While most of my friends say it’s not worth it, I beg to differ. On my recent crazy adventures, I was flying back home from Frankfurt, Germany then immediately getting on a flight from Los Angeles to Bogota, Colombia. I decided to book Avianca Business Class on their 787 as I needed to get some rest before my adventure. The seats were configured in a 1-2-1 configuration with a divider

Review: Emirates A380 First Class (JFK-MXP)
To kick off our trip to Europe, we flew Emirates’ Airbus A380 first class from New York (JFK) to Milan (MXP). I know, a travel blogger flying Emirates first class, how original. 😉 But as I explained in a previous post, there was a very special reason we were taking this flight. Our good friend Toby was the purser on this flight, and it was one of his last trips with Emirates after a 15+ year career. It was such a pleasure and privilege to be able to fly with him one last time in uniform (though I know

Review: Etihad First Class “Apartment” Is A Stunner, Minus The Service
In the battle for the “most premium” first class title, airlines like Singapore Airlines and Etihad Airways have gone above-and-beyond, creating large suites for their passengers. As part of a journey between Australia and South Africa, I was fortunate enough to sample the Etihad first class product known as “The Apartment.” Though there is technically one higher cabin class, the renowned “Residence,” the Apartment provided more space than I could possibly use. Breaking It Down: Though they are not alliance partners, American Airlines and Etihad have a partnership agreement for both revenue and award flights. One of the
