KLM’s frequent‑flyer program is the Flying Blue program, which is shared with Air France and offers three main elite tiers.
Elite tiers and how you reach them
- Silver – Earn 100 XP within a rolling 12‑month period to qualify for Silver status. Once earned, the tier is kept for the next 12 months, after which you must earn the required XP again to retain it FrequentMiler .
- Gold – After achieving Silver, you need an additional 180 XP (for a total of 280 XP) within the next 12 months to move up to Gold FrequentMiler .
- Platinum – After Gold, you must earn an extra 300 XP (total 580 XP) within the following 12 months to reach Platinum FrequentMiler .
All tiers operate on a rolling 12‑month calendar, so the clock resets to 0 each time you attain a new level, giving you more than a full year to progress to the next tier FrequentMiler .

- Soft‑landing policy – If you drop below an elite tier, you are automatically placed one level lower rather than losing elite status entirely God Save the Points .
- Status matching – United‑based residents can request a paid status match into Flying Blue, with matching tiers ranging from Silver up to Platinum Economy Class & Beyond .
- Alliance recognition – Within the SkyTeam alliance, Flying Blue Silver maps to SkyTeam Elite, while Gold and Platinum map to SkyTeam Elite Plus PointsMath .
