If you’re flying United flight 1122 on May 13, here are some seat choices to consider based on United’s current offerings.
Economy Plus – extra legroom
- Economy Plus seats provide the same seat as standard economy but add several inches of legroom and are located toward the front of the cabin, helping you deplane faster.
Preferred Seats – better location
- Preferred Seats are standard seats positioned closer to the front and often avoid middle seats, though they do not include the extra legroom of Economy Plus.
Relax Row – lie‑flat option for long‑haul
- On long‑haul United flights, the new Relax Row lets you reserve a row of three economy seats that transform into a couch‑like, lie‑flat space, ideal for families, couples, or solo travelers seeking extra space.
Premium Plus / Polaris (if applicable)
- For United’s 787 Dreamliner, Premium Plus seats offer wider seats with extended recline and leg rests, sitting in a 2‑3‑3 layout and providing a step up from standard economy.
Boarding considerations
- Economy Plus does not automatically grant priority boarding, though elite status or fare class may let you board earlier.
Is United Economy Plus Worth Paying For? Here’s What You Really Get
United offers several categories of seats on its planes, but it’s not always clear what you’re actually getting. The names can be vague, and the differences aren’t always obvious at first glance. For U.S. domestic flights, you’ll typically see these options: On most domestic flights, there are only two cabins: First and Economy. While the seats themselves are largely the same throughout Economy, location and legroom can vary significantly depending on what you select. Passengers seated in Economy Plus do not automatically receive priority boarding. However, many travelers sitting in those seats may still board earlier

United Airlines is eagerly awaiting the arrival of its first ultra-premium Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner with the carrier’s next-generation Polaris Studio Business Class suites. And the formal delivery date is edging ever closer. Unfortunately, however, a flight plan filed on Monday, which showed the aircraft would be flying to Washington Dulles on January 9, was a red herring and only forms part of the plane’s pre-delivery test flights. While we’ll have to wait slightly longer before United takes delivery of the plane, it’s worth noting that this aircraft marks a big change for United’s premium cabin experience on long-haul
United 787 Premium Plus On Fifth Freedom Hong Kong–Bangkok Flight
As I mentioned yesterday, I flew from Hong Kong to Bangkok in premium economy (what United brands as Premium Plus) on a Boeing 787, a short but pleasant daytime flight. It was fun to check out the Hong Kong United Club again, which I had not been to in over a decade. It’s one of only four United Clubs located outside the United Sates, the other three being in London Heathrow, Mexico City, and Tokyo Narita. It brought back many memories… United flies a tag flight between Hong Kong and Bangkok each day to better utilize its 787-9
