Southwest’s Boeing 737 fleet offers a few rows that stand out for taller passengers who need extra space.

Front‑Cabin Extra‑Legroom Rows

  • The first few rows of the cabin (typically rows 1‑3) are designated as Extra Legroom seats and feature a 34‑inch seat pitch, giving taller travelers more room.

Exit‑Row Seats

  • On the 737‑800 and 737 MAX 8, the exit‑row window seats in row 16 (seats 16A and 16F) have no seat directly in front, creating an “infinite legroom” feel and the most space available.

Southwest Has A Secret “Infinite Legroom” Seat — Here’s Why It Exists And How To Grab It
Southwest Airlines has an infinite legroom seat that’s the most desirable on the aircraft. I’ve had the seat – even without an especially low boarding number – because it’s an exit row seat midway back in the aircraft and many people don’t know to make a beeline for it. Founder of global logistics firm Flexport Ryan Petersen asks why this seat even exists Why does Southwest have this one seat that’s so much better than all the rest? pic.twitter.com/I9HKDBs5t9 — Ryan Petersen (@typesfast) December 10, 2025 Southwest actually has two of these seats –

End Of An Era: Southwest Airlines Assigned & Premium Seating Now Live
Southwest Airlines is in the process of transforming its business model, under financial pressure from activist investors. The airline is changing just about everything, and has started charging for checked bags, adding basic economy, expiring travel credits, and more. In July 2024, Southwest announced plans to introduce assigned and premium seating on flights, ending the carrier’s decades-old policy of having open seating. This feature has now been implemented for flights as of early 2026, so we have our first look at what pricing will be like… In this post: Southwest Airlines is introducing both assigned seating and

My Favorite Seat On A Plane
I love to fly in fancy airline seats. There’s nothing like flying in a lie-flat seat and getting to recline back and catch a few ZZZs at 35,000 feet. It’s even more important if you’re going to be on a plane for 18 hours. We can use miles to book flights when traveling over the Atlantic or Pacific oceans, but most of our flights are short trips within the continental U.S. Typically, we fly in economy with American, Delta, JetBlue, or Southwest, and it’s not worthwhile to use miles or cash to upgrade to first class. However, there’s

Southwest Airlines: How to Secure the Best Seats
Southwest Airlines is celebrated for its open seating policy, allowing passengers to choose their own seat once on board. I find it both thrilling and nerve-wracking since your seat depends on how quickly you can secure a good boarding position—and that positioning comes with many strategies for success. Unlike most carriers, Southwest doesn’t assign seats. Instead, you receive a boarding group—A, B, or C—alongside a boarding position number. The earlier you board, the better your options for snagging exit-row or bulkhead seats with extra legroom. I’ve observed during my own travels that passengers who line up early or purchase

Resisting The Knee Squeeze: Which Airlines Offer The Most Seat Pitch In Economy?
One of the reasons people don’t enjoy flying economy is because of the limited legroom, particularly for taller passengers. In this post, I’m going to visit the topic of legroom, and introduce some airlines that offer the most seat pitch in economy. Do note that seat pitch and legroom aren’t the same thing, even though there’s obviously a strong correlation. Legroom is how much space there is between your kneecap and the seat in front – it varies depending on how long your legs are, and also how thick the seatback is. Seat pitch, meanwhile, is the distance between
